A number of residents in the Al-Matar neighborhood of Jazan City expressed their concern about the sewage overflow that surrounds their homes and restricts their movement, as well as the unpleasant odors that have persisted for more than two years without any response from the National Water Company and the Jazan Region Municipality, which forced them to file a complaint with the Emirate of the region.
Yahya Tabeqi (one of the residents of Al-Matar) told "Okaz": "For two years, we have been living in a tragic situation due to the sewage overflow. During the rainy season, the suffering increases, and we fear for our children from falling into it and causing an environmental and health disaster as the overflow has become susceptible to the spread of insects."
For his part, Yahya Khardali says: "The damage has not been limited to this extent; the spread of odors has extended into our homes, which prompted us to convey our suffering and file an official complaint to the National Water Company. Their response was: 'We inform you that we are addressing the sewage overflow complaint.' When we did not find any real response and as time passed, our suffering intensified, which made us submit another complaint, and we also submitted a third complaint, to which they replied: 'We inform you that we are addressing the sewage overflow complaint,' but to no avail.
Mohammed Zaili says: "For many years, my dream was to buy a house that would ensure a decent life for my family, but we have not enjoyed it; rather, we feel regret for choosing this place. We are now lamenting our situation as the neighborhood lacks the most basic services, with the absence of oversight from the municipality and the National Water Company."
