The Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Board of the "TOURISE" platform, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, revealed the features of the second edition of the Global Forum, scheduled to be held in Riyadh from March 23 to 25, 2027, confirming that the platform aims not to be just an annual summit, but a global umbrella that operates year-round, bringing together governments, investors, operators, and business and technology leaders to shape the future of the tourism and travel sector.
Al-Khateeb explained during a press conference that the sponsorship of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for the forum reflects the attention the tourism sector receives within the targets of Saudi Vision 2030, noting that the Kingdom has surpassed its target of welcoming 100 million tourists seven years ahead of schedule, and that the sector now provides more than one million jobs, with its contribution to the economy exceeding 5%.
He emphasized that the tourism industry relies on an interconnected system, where the aviation, airports, hospitality, travel, and investment sectors cannot operate in isolation from one another, stressing the need for coordination and joint planning within a clear vision that ensures the sector's ability to accommodate the accelerating growth in traveler numbers.
He cited King Salman International Airport, pointing out the importance of increasing airport capacity in conjunction with the major global events hosted by the Kingdom, to welcome millions of visitors and provide them with a comprehensive service system.
Al-Khateeb: We want technology to serve humanity, not to eliminate its presence
Artificial intelligence was strongly present in the discussions at the conference, as Al-Khateeb affirmed his support for technology and its uses in facilitating the traveler's journey, but he also stressed the need to maintain the human element in the tourism experience.
He stated that he welcomes the use of technology to speed up procedures at airports and deliver luggage to hotels or homes, but he does not want hospitality to become a fully automated experience provided by robots, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and interaction between guests and staff in restaurants and hotels; as this communication carries the ability to convey the culture of the country to its visitors.
He added that one of the things that excites him about the future of the sector is enabling more people to travel and learn about the cultures of other nations, alongside the job opportunities that come with the growth of travel movement.
Guevara: Saudi Arabia has surpassed global and regional growth rates
For her part, the CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara, emphasized the importance of partnership between the public and private sectors in accelerating tourism growth, explaining that the global economy recorded a growth of about 2%, compared to 4% for the travel and tourism sector, and about 5% in the Middle East, while growth in Saudi Arabia exceeded 7%.
She attributed the Kingdom's success to the integration of vision, leadership, resources, and partnerships, pointing out that the private sector leads investments and provides jobs, while the public sector works to create a supportive regulatory environment for growth.
Guevara addressed the future of safe and smooth travel, the use of digital identity and biometric measurements, and modern technologies to facilitate travelers' entry and exit from airports, alongside the opportunities provided by artificial intelligence and instant translation, with the need to keep pace with these transformations through appropriate legislation.
Human Capital in the Age of Machines
The CEO of Liberty International and a member of the Board of Trustees of TOURISE, Mario Enzenberger, placed human capital at the forefront of the priorities for the future of tourism.
He affirmed that artificial intelligence is capable of innovating and developing many services, but the sector is required to continue investing in people; as empathy and direct interaction remain an integral part of the travel and hospitality experience, and cannot be reduced to technology.
This vision aligns with the approach of the TOURISE platform, launched by the Ministry of Tourism in 2025 with the support of the Saudi Tourism Authority, to bring together policymakers, investors, innovators, tourist destinations, business leaders, and experts, transforming the dialogue about the future of the sector into partnerships, investments, and practical initiatives that contribute to shaping the next five decades of global tourism.
$113 billion pave the way for the 2027 edition
The second edition kicks off with investment momentum, following the success of the inaugural edition, which was held in Riyadh from November 11 to 13, 2025, in stimulating investment portfolios worth $113 billion, covering tourist destinations, hotels, retail, talent development, projects, tourism experiences, and AI-supported platforms.
Al-Khateeb stressed that "TOURISE" is not an event that ends with the conclusion of its days, explaining that the platform has continued its activities since the first edition, through more than 20 meetings and 10 events, and the issuance of more than 10 research papers; aiming to sustain dialogue and cooperation among the influential parties in the tourism ecosystem throughout the year.
