The Yemeni government strongly condemned the new hostile and terrorist attempt carried out by the Houthi terrorist militia, by launching a drone that was intercepted and destroyed by the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces before entering the restricted airspace of the holy capital, Mecca, in a highly dangerous escalation and a deliberate provocation of the feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world.
A statement issued by the Cabinet confirmed that the Houthi militia's attempt to target Mecca, following its targeting of civilians and vital facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones, once again reveals the nature of this aggressive project, which no longer targets just Yemenis and neighboring countries, but also deliberately endangers the security of the region, the sanctities, and the safety of civilians.
The government expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership, government, and people, emphasizing that the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of the guests of Allah is a red line, and that any attempt to undermine the security of Mecca or endanger its residents and visitors represents a highly dangerous aggression that cannot be tolerated or treated as a mere military incident.
The government affirmed its full support for what was announced by the leadership of the Joint Forces of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, and its backing for the necessary and deterrent measures that will be taken to confront the Houthi militia and its sources of threat, including all legitimate measures capable of protecting the security of the Kingdom and the safety of citizens, residents, and guests of Allah, deterring Houthi aggressions, and safeguarding regional security and stability.
The government stressed that targeting Mecca, attempting to threaten the security of the Kingdom, the military escalation on the western coast, and the threat to Bab el-Mandeb are not separate incidents, but rather links in a single escalation project led by the Houthi militia with systematic Iranian support and empowerment; and that confronting this danger requires a firm regional and international stance that deters the militia, dries up its sources of armament and funding, protects the security of the Kingdom and the Two Holy Mosques, and preserves the security of Yemen and the region and the freedom of international navigation.
The government held the Houthi terrorist militia fully responsible for this escalation and its repercussions, and also held the Iranian regime responsible for its continued empowerment, arming, and provision of the capabilities it uses to carry out these aggressions.
The government called on the international community, the Security Council, the United Nations, and active countries to address the Houthi escalation as a comprehensive threat to regional and international peace and security, and not to be satisfied with condemning the attacks after they occur, but to take serious action to stop the sources of funding and arming the militia, and to confront the networks smuggling weapons, military components, and expertise that reach it from Iran.
