In Mecca, yesterday morning (Tuesday) was not ordinary. In the hotel rooms overlooking the Grand Mosque, the phones of the pilgrims vibrated with a security alert requesting calm, shelter, and to stay away from windows and doors, due to a "hostile aerial threat."
Just moments before, the window offered its owner the most precious view in the world: the Kaaba. Then he had to move away from it. In a moment filled with contradictions: the Kaaba, the safe haven, was present: in sight... and the alert warning of the danger of Houthi militia terrorism was present: in hand.
The pilgrim did not see the missile, but he did not need to see it. The phone informed him that danger was coming, then the message arrived: "Announcement of the danger's removal."
However, the sound of the alarm did not originate at that moment. Since 2016, Houthi missiles have been linked to attempts to target Mecca, and the scene repeated in 2017 and 2019, before being intercepted far from the holy capital.
In Jazan, days ago, a Houthi projectile landed, injuring two people and causing damage to a mosque, buildings, and vehicles.
Here, the story transcends the path of a missile. Mecca is not an ordinary city, and targeting it is not just a military incident; it is an assault on the sanctity of the place that the hearts of Muslims long for before their faces.
The Houthis wanted to instill fear and terror, but thanks to God Almighty and the efforts and vigilance of the Saudi armed forces, they failed to achieve their goals, and Mecca remained safe and secure.
