China launched a new batch of satellites dedicated to satellite internet services today (Sunday), in a move that reflects the acceleration of its national programs to develop communication networks based on low Earth orbit satellites, as part of a massive project aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure and providing high-speed internet services in various regions.
The Xinhua News Agency reported that the launch took place from a modern commercial space vehicle launch site in Hainan Province (southern China), where the Long March-12 rocket successfully carried the twenty-fourth batch of low Earth orbit internet satellites into their designated orbits at 12:10 PM Beijing time.
This launch is part of a series of consecutive operations through which China is building a wide system of satellites dedicated to communications; aimed at supporting high-speed internet services, expanding network coverage in remote areas, and enhancing the country's capabilities in the fields of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and secure communications.
This step comes amid rising global competition in the field of satellite internet, as China seeks to develop its own system to counter similar international projects that rely on thousands of small satellites, thereby enhancing its technical independence and increasing its capabilities in digital infrastructure.
The Long March-12 rocket is one of China's latest launch vehicles, designed for commercial missions, and is characterized by its ability to efficiently carry multiple groups of small satellites into low orbits, making it a key element in China's plans to expand satellite communication networks.
