A meeting of the Arab working group was held to prepare for the Conference of Plenipotentiaries of the Arab League, chaired by the Kingdom; which aims to unify efforts, align viewpoints, and discuss common decisions and directions, coinciding with the announcement of the commencement of preparatory work for the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR25) hosted by the capital, Riyadh.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding decisions related to everything concerning the Conference of Plenipotentiaries, and the nomination of the Kingdom and Arab countries to retain their seats in the International Telecommunication Union Council, membership in the Radio Regulations Board, and other efforts aimed at assuming leadership positions within the Union.
The Kingdom's leadership of the Arab team comes as a result of its prominent status and roles, its effective participation in international decision-making, its efforts to support the goals of the International Telecommunication Union, and its strategic partnership in implementing its outcomes and achieving sustainable development goals, as well as being a key player in promoting a culture of innovation in the fields of communications, space, and technology at the international level.
It is worth noting that the Conference of Plenipotentiaries is the highest authority in the International Telecommunication Union - the United Nations specialized agency for communications and information technology - and it is held every four years, during which member states in the Union decide the future role of the Union and outline its directions and activities, thereby determining the Union's ability to influence the development and direction of communications and technology globally.
