A recent report issued by Moody's credit rating agency revealed that the revenues of listed insurance companies in the Saudi financial market increased by 14% during the first half of 2026, reaching approximately 38.5 billion riyals, driven by the continued growth of vehicle insurance and medical insurance.
According to the report, the revenue growth coincided with an improvement in the sector's profitability, as the total net profit attributable to shareholders rose by 13% to 1.5 billion riyals, compared to 1.3 billion riyals in the same period of 2025, supported by improved underwriting performance and increased investment income. The net insurance results increased by 13%, while investment income surged by 17%, benefiting from the growth of invested assets and higher returns on investment portfolios.
Reducing Losses and Returning to Profitability
According to the report, the improvement during the first half primarily came from medium and small insurance companies that succeeded in reducing their losses or returning to profitability, while the combined profits of the largest five companies remained largely stable compared to the same period last year.
12 out of 24 insurance companies recorded higher net profits year-on-year, yet 9 companies continued to report net losses, indicating a disparity in recovery.
In terms of insurance activity, underwriting performance improved during the first half, supported by growth in premiums, improved claims, increased discipline in underwriting, and better pricing conditions, especially in vehicle insurance.
