Fitch Ratings has revealed that the capital position of Saudi insurance companies is strong, and that underwriting activities in insurance policies are expected to recover in 2026, supporting profitability improvements for most companies.
According to a recent report by the agency, the credit ratings of Saudi insurance companies are primarily based on the company's profile, capital level, and profits.
Dramatic Shift
It is noted that the Saudi insurance sector experienced a dramatic shift in its financial results in 2025, as the "general correction" cast a shadow over the performance of the 26 listed companies. The sector recorded a sharp decline in aggregate net profits, affected by operational pressures and general market conditions, with sector profits in 2025 notably decreasing by 42.3%, falling to 2,164.2 million riyals compared to 3,750.1 million riyals.
This aligns with the insurance sector index closing in 2025 with an annual decline of 29.9%, dropping to 7,446.7 points compared to 10,622.3 points in 2024, affected by the general correction that the Saudi stock market experienced, which lost about 12.8% of its value by the end of 2025.
