شينباوم: نحرز تقدماً في المفاوضات التجارية مع أمريكا

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that trade negotiations between the United States and her country are very advanced, following the announcement by her American counterpart Donald Trump to cut talks with Canada, their partner in the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Sheinbaum said at a press conference that Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard will travel this week to attend the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) meeting in South Korea, where he will hold additional meetings with the Trump administration.

Sheinbaum responded to reporters' questions about the implications of the disagreements between Ottawa and Washington on the North American Free Trade Agreement, saying: "We will wait."

She expressed optimism that the Economy Minister could reach some agreements with the American team in South Korea. She said: "We are making very good progress in studying the points they raised, which they consider obstacles to the trade agreement, and we do not consider most of them as such."

Sudden Shift

Trump ended trade talks with Canada last Thursday in a sudden shift in his position due to an anti-tariff advertising campaign funded by the Canadian province of Ontario.

Last September, during an official visit to Mexico by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the two countries called for a fairer and more effective free trade agreement in North America, while Trump threatened to impose tariffs on his two neighbors and trade partners.
