أعربت الصين اليوم عن أملها في أن تسعى الولايات المتحدة إلى نتائج «إيجابية»، قبل يوم على انتهاء هدنة تجارية توصّل إليها البلدان الشهر الماضي.
وقال المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية لين جيان في بيان: «نأمل أن تعمل الولايات المتحدة مع الصين لمتابعة التوافق المهم الذي تم التوصل إليه خلال اتصال هاتفي بين الرئيسين، وأن تسعى لنتائج إيجابية على أساس المساواة والاحترام والمنفعة المتبادلة».
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قد أصدر أخيراً أمراً تنفيذيّاً يقضي بفرض رسوم جمركية إضافية 25% على الواردات من الهند، لتضاف إلى رسوم جمركية 25% أُعلن عنها سابقاً.
وتنذر هذه الخطوة بمزيد من التعقيدات في العلاقات الأمريكية الهندية، وتأتي بعد وقت قصير من إعلان مصدر حكومي هندي أن رئيس الوزراء ناريندرا مودي سيزور الصين لأول مرة منذ أكثر من 7 سنوات في وقت لاحق من الشهر الجاري.
وتشهد العلاقات الأمريكية الهندية أكبر أزمة منذ سنوات بعد أن باءت المحادثات مع نيودلهي بالفشل في إبرام اتفاق تجاري.
من جهتها، أعلنت الحكومة في الهند أنها تأسف لقرار أمريكا بشأن فرض رسوم جمركية إضافية، وأكدت أنها ستعمل على حماية مصالحها الوطنية بعد الإجراء الذي اتخذته واشنطن.
وتعد الهند تاسع أكبر شريك تجاري لأمريكا، حيث تذهب 18% من صادرات الهند إلى الولايات المتحدة.

China expressed today its hope that the United States will seek "positive" outcomes, one day before the expiration of a trade truce reached by the two countries last month.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated in a statement: "We hope that the United States will work with China to follow up on the important consensus reached during the phone call between the two presidents, and seek positive results based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit."
U.S. President Donald Trump recently issued an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, adding to a previously announced 25% tariff.
This move signals further complications in U.S.-India relations and comes shortly after an Indian government source announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China for the first time in over 7 years later this month.
U.S.-India relations are experiencing their biggest crisis in years after talks with New Delhi failed to reach a trade agreement.
For its part, the Indian government announced that it regrets the U.S. decision regarding the imposition of additional tariffs, and confirmed that it will work to protect its national interests following the action taken by Washington.
India is the ninth largest trading partner of the U.S., with 18% of India's exports going to the United States.
