عادت النجمة الأمريكية كورتني كوكس إلى مقعد المخرج، بعد غياب امتد نحو 12 عاماً عن إخراج الأفلام الطويلة، عبر فيلمها الجديد «Evil Genius»، الذي شهد عرضه العالمي الأول ضمن مهرجان تورنتو السينمائي الدولي، مستعيداً واحدة من أغرب القضايا الجنائية التي شهدتها الولايات المتحدة.
ويستند الفيلم إلى قضية «مفجر البيتزا» الشهيرة، التي وقعت عام 2003 في ولاية بنسلفانيا، حين وجد عامل توصيل البيتزا برايان ويلز نفسه وسط عملية سطو على بنك، فيما كان طوق متفجر مثبتاً حول عنقه. ويقترب العمل من خيوط القضية والعلاقة المعقدة بين الشخصيات المرتبطة بها، في معالجة تجمع الجريمة والدراما والكوميديا السوداء.
وتقود باتريشيا أركيت البطولة، إلى جانب ديفيد هاربور، فيما يمثل الفيلم ثاني تجربة روائية طويلة لكوكس كمخرجة، بعد «Just Before I Go» عام 2014.
وتضع التجربة كوكس أمام اختبار سينمائي مختلف عن صورتها الجماهيرية التي رسختها كممثلة، إذ تراهن هذه المرة على قصة حقيقية ثقيلة التفاصيل، ومعالجة تبحث خلف الجريمة عن دوافع شخصياتها وعلاقاتها المضطربة.
American star Courteney Cox has returned to the director's chair after a 12-year absence from directing feature films, with her new film "Evil Genius," which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, revisiting one of the strangest criminal cases in the United States.
The film is based on the infamous "Pizza Bomber" case that occurred in 2003 in Pennsylvania, when pizza delivery driver Brian Wells found himself in the midst of a bank robbery, with an explosive collar strapped around his neck. The work delves into the threads of the case and the complex relationships between the characters involved, in a narrative that blends crime, drama, and dark comedy.
Patricia Arquette leads the cast, alongside David Harbour, making this film Cox's second feature film as a director, following "Just Before I Go" in 2014.
This experience places Cox in a cinematic test different from the public image she established as an actress, as she bets this time on a heavy, detail-rich true story, exploring the motivations of her characters and their troubled relationships behind the crime.
