The health condition of Turkish artist Gülşen Tunçer has raised widespread concern in the Turkish artistic community, following reports about her suffering from a serious illness and her absence from public appearances in recent times.
Tunçer's artistic activity has noticeably declined before her news resurfaced with discussions about the deterioration of her health.
In the latest statements, her husband, director Engin Aytac, confirmed that her condition is "critical" and that the illness has reached an advanced stage, noting that she is receiving treatment in a hospital under close monitoring by doctors and with the presence of family members. Aytac did not disclose additional details about the nature of the treatment or her response to it, merely emphasizing that the family is going through a sensitive phase.
These statements coincided with Turkish media reports that mentioned the artist being diagnosed with stage four brain cancer, along with claims regarding her loss of the ability to speak and write, information that her family has not officially confirmed yet, keeping the debate alive about the reality of her health condition.
Tunçer's absence from artistic events recently raised questions about the reasons for her withdrawal, before reports linked this absence to the deterioration of her condition. As news spread, the audience began to revisit her works and her career, which has spanned over half a century, starting in 1968 and including dozens of cinematic and dramatic works, among them (What is Fatma Gül's Fault?) and (Step-Mother) and (A Train Journey).
Despite her numerous participations, her role in (Forbidden Love) remains the most prominent among the Arab audience, as she portrayed the character (Arsen Hanım), one of the pivotal figures in the (Adnan Bey) family, within one of the most famous Turkish works that achieved wide popularity in the region.
With the continued absence of accurate information regarding her health status, her audience is awaiting any official update from her family, while her family continues to stand by her during her treatment journey, amidst a state of concern about the upcoming phase.
