جددت الأمطار الأخيرة تهديدها لسكان مدينة جازان بالإصابة بحمى الضنك، بعد أن تسببت في بروز المستنقعات المائية في عدة مواقع متفرقة وسط الأحياء السكنية، خصوصاً في حي السويس.
وأجمع عدد من الأهالي والسكان، على أن الأمطار الأخيرة التي شهدتها مدينة جازان أدت إلى بروز المستنقعات المائية بالأراضي الفضاء الممتدة بمساحات شاسعة، التي تعد مرتعاً آمناً لتكاثر البعوض الناقل للأمراض، خصوصاً حمى الضنك. وطالب الأهالي الجهات المعنية بردم المستنقعات المائية ورشها بالمبيدات تحسباً لتوالد وتكاثر البعوض، بعد أن تحولت الأراضي إلى مستنقعات مائية تغطيها الأشجار والحشائش وتغمرها المياه.
عبدالله سرور من سكان حي السويس بيّن، أن الأراضي الفضاء البيضاء تمثل هاجساً مزعجاً للسكان كونها منخفضة عن مستوى الطرق والأبنية السكنية وتعد حوضاً آمناً تتجمع وسطه المياه الآسنة محاطة بالأشجار الضارة، التي أصبحت تشكل بؤرة وملاذاً آمناً للبعوض الناقل للأمراض، خصوصاً حمى الضنك، وطالب الجهات المعنية بضرورة ردمها أو رشها أو إلزام أصحابها بردمها. فيما قال محمد علي: إن الأمطار الأخيرة سريعاً ما أدت إلى بروز المستنقعات المائية، وذلك يشكل خطراً على حياة المواطنين والمقيمين، وطالب الجهات المعنية بسرعة ردم الأراضي الفضاء البيضاء التي تشكل خطراً على حياة المواطنين وتعد أحواضاً للتجمعات المائية. وأضاف، أن المنطقة مقبلة على موسم الأمطار وترك هذه المساحات المفتوحة من الأراضي دون إعمار أو ردم سيكون سبباً مباشراً في بروز المستنقعات المائية وبؤرة مصدرة للبعوض الناقل للأمراض. فيما تحدث أيمن علي قائلاً: «إن لسعات البعوض أوجعتنا قبل الأمطار وبعدها، والسبب التجمعات المائية التي غطت مواقع متفرقة من الأراضي الفضاء وشكلت مستنقعات مائية موبوءة»، وطالب الجهات المعنية بمعالجة الوضع، «فالأرض الفضاء البيضاء طبيعتها أرض ملحية (سبخة)، وذلك يساعد في سرعة بروز المستنقعات المائية التي تهدد حياة السكان؛ لأنها تحيط بالمباني وسط الأحياء السكنية القريبة منها».
دخول البعوض للمنازل
وشكا عدد من الأهالي بأنهم عجزوا عن مكافحة البعوض الذي باغتهم داخل منازلهم وشققهم السكنية، فيما أشار إبراهيم صالح، إلى أن المستنقعات سرعان ما تتحول إلى مياه آسنة تشكل بؤراً ضارة لتكاثر البعوض، وأضاف أنها تعد خطراً على حياة المواطنين، إذ إن بعض المستنقعات المائية تحاذي الأماكن العامة والمحلات التجارية والمماشي العامة. وأضاف، أن هذه الأراضي الفضاء تشكل خطراً على قائدي المركبات كونها منخفضة عن مستوى الشوارع الرئيسية والفرعية، وتهدد حياة المارة والمركبات، وقد تسببت بسقوط عدد من السيارات نتيجة حوادث مرورية؛ لأن جنباتها تفتقر للأرصفة أو المصدات أو التنبيهات الإرشادية.

Abdullah Sarour, a resident of Al-Suwis neighborhood, explained that the white open lands represent a disturbing concern for the residents as they are lower than the level of roads and residential buildings and constitute a safe basin where stagnant water accumulates surrounded by harmful trees, which have become a hotspot and safe haven for disease-carrying mosquitoes, especially dengue fever. He urged the relevant authorities to fill them in or spray them or compel their owners to fill them in. Meanwhile, Mohammed Ali stated that the recent rains quickly led to the emergence of waterlogged areas, which poses a danger to the lives of citizens and residents, and he called on the relevant authorities to quickly fill in the white open lands that pose a danger to the lives of citizens and serve as basins for water accumulation. He added that the area is approaching the rainy season, and leaving these open spaces of land without development or filling will be a direct cause for the emergence of waterlogged areas and a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Ayman Ali remarked, “The mosquito bites have troubled us before and after the rains, due to the water accumulations that covered scattered locations of the open lands and formed infected waterlogged areas,” and he called on the relevant authorities to address the situation, “The white open land is naturally saline (sabkha), which helps in the rapid emergence of waterlogged areas that threaten the lives of residents; as they surround buildings in the nearby residential neighborhoods.”
The Entry of Mosquitoes into Homes
Several residents complained that they were unable to combat the mosquitoes that invaded their homes and apartments, while Ibrahim Saleh pointed out that the waterlogged areas quickly turn into stagnant water, forming harmful hotspots for mosquito breeding. He added that they pose a danger to the lives of citizens, as some waterlogged areas are adjacent to public places, commercial shops, and public walkways. He further stated that these open lands pose a danger to vehicle drivers as they are lower than the level of main and secondary streets, threatening the lives of pedestrians and vehicles, and have caused several cars to fall due to traffic accidents; because their sides lack sidewalks, barriers, or warning signs.
