Sometimes, the simplest daily details in shopping centers can turn into death traps that no one could have imagined. This is exactly what the young Jordanian, Mohammad Faiq Al-Hashaisha, paid for, after his 15-year struggle in the United States ended with a treacherous bullet that tore through his heart inside his store in Chicago.
The crime that shocked the Arab community in America was not a coincidence; it began with a purely ethical and legal stance when he refused to sell cigarettes to a teenager.
The details of the incident date back to the moment a 17-year-old teenager entered the victim's store asking to buy cigarettes. According to what Jordanian media reported from the deceased's family, "Abu Fares" adhered to the law and asked the young man to show his ID to prove he was of legal age, which the teenager completely refused before leaving the place angrily.
However, the story did not end there, as the teenager later returned to stalk the victim and coldly ended his life with a bullet fired inside his workplace, leaving behind a wife waiting for their fifth child and four young children.
For its part, the Chicago police quickly opened an extensive investigation, utilizing surveillance camera recordings and the testimonies of eyewitnesses who reported seeing a person fleeing on foot immediately after hearing the gunfire.
In developments of the case, Ashraf Al-Hashaisha, the victim's uncle, confirmed that the American security agencies informed them that they had managed to identify the suspect and were intensifying their efforts to track him down and arrest him to bring justice to a family shocked by the loss. Meanwhile, his family is preparing to receive condolences at the Al-Hashaisha Association hall in Jordan, closing the chapter on a man who resisted the harshness of exile for many years, only to fall victim due to a pack of cigarettes he refused to sell to a reckless teenager.
