في مشاهد تبدو وكأنها مأخوذة من عالم خيالي، تتحول بعض الشواطئ حول العالم ليلًا إلى مساحات مائية تتلألأ بنقاط زرقاء مضيئة، فيما يعرف بظاهرة التوهج الحيوي. وتنتج هذه الإضاءة عن كائنات بحرية دقيقة تُصدر الضوء عند تحريك المياه، لكن ظهورها ليس ثابتًا، إذ يتأثر بحالة الطقس وهدوء البحر ومستوى الإضاءة المحيطة.
شواطئ سان دييجو – أمريكا
تشهد بعض شواطئ سان دييجو، مثل لا جولا شورز وتوري باينز، ظهور الإضاءة الزرقاء الناتجة عن تجمعات الدينوفلاجيلات، وهي كائنات دقيقة تُصدر الضوء عند اهتزاز المياه. لكن ظهورها غير منتظم ويعتمد على تكوّن التجمعات المناسبة.
شواطئ المالديف المتلألئة
ترتبط بعض شواطئ المالديف بما يُعرف بـ بحر النجوم، حيث تتحول المياه ليلًا إلى بساط مضيء يشبه السماء المرصعة. وتُعد جزيرة فادهو من أبرز المواقع التي ارتبط اسمها بهذه الظاهرة، رغم أن ظهورها يبقى رهينًا بالظروف الطبيعية المناسبة.
خليج توياما – اليابان
تقدم اليابان شكلًا مختلفًا من الإضاءة البحرية، إذ يظهر الحبار المضيء في خليج توياما خلال موسم معين، حيث تمتلك هذه الكائنات أعضاء قادرة على إصدار الضوء، وتقترب بأعداد كبيرة من الساحل أثناء التكاثر، ما يجعل المياه تبدو مضيئة بطريقة فريدة تختلف عن التوهج الناتج عن العوالق.
خليج موسكيتو – بورتوريكو
يُعد خليج موسكيتو في جزيرة فييكس أحد أشهر المواقع التي تُشاهد فيها المياه المتوهجة بكثافة لافتة، إذ تتجمع الكائنات المضيئة في ظروف مثالية تجعل الأمواج تبدو كأنها مرصعة بنقاط زرقاء لامعة. وتزداد فرصة مشاهدة التوهج في الليالي المظلمة بعيدًا عن مصادر الضوء.
خليج جيرفيس – أستراليا
في نيو ساوث ويلز، تظهر ومضات التوهج الحيوي في أجزاء من خليج جيرفيس خلال فترات معينة من العام، إذ تتفاعل العوالق المضيئة مع حركة الأمواج لتنتج ضوءًا أزرق واضحًا في الظلام، بينما تختلف فرص رؤيتها من موسم لآخر.

Glowing Maldives Beaches
Some beaches in the Maldives are associated with what is known as the Sea of Stars, where the water transforms at night into a glowing carpet resembling a starry sky. Vaadhoo Island is one of the prominent locations linked to this phenomenon, although its appearance remains contingent on suitable natural conditions.
Toyama Bay – Japan
Japan offers a different form of marine illumination, as the glowing squid appears in Toyama Bay during a specific season, where these creatures possess organs capable of emitting light and approach the coast in large numbers during their breeding season, making the water look uniquely illuminated compared to the glow produced by plankton.
Mosquito Bay – Puerto Rico
Mosquito Bay on Vieques Island is one of the most famous sites where glowing waters can be seen with striking intensity, as luminous organisms gather under ideal conditions, making the waves appear as if they are studded with shiny blue dots. The chances of witnessing the glow increase on dark nights away from light sources.
Jervis Bay – Australia
In New South Wales, flashes of bioluminescence appear in parts of Jervis Bay during certain times of the year, as luminous plankton interact with wave movement to produce a clear blue light in the dark, while the chances of seeing it vary from season to season.
