104 people experienced sudden health symptoms after trying a dietary supplement during a training session for health volunteers in the "Nan" province of northern Thailand, with several cases being hospitalized for treatment, and authorities have begun examining the product to determine the cause of the incident.
Symptoms within 15 minutes
The incident occurred during a training session for health volunteers held from September 25 to 27, after a person accompanying one of the speakers offered a dietary supplement to the participants and encouraged them to try it.
About 15 minutes after consumption, unusual symptoms began to appear in several participants, including chest tightness, facial and body redness, rashes, and high blood pressure, with some losing consciousness.
129 people consumed the supplement
According to initial information, the number of participants in the session was 163, of whom 129 consumed the product, and symptoms appeared in 104 people, while no abnormal symptoms were observed in 25 others.
21 individuals required treatment at "Na Noi" hospital, while 7 cases were admitted for continued care and medical follow-up.
Samples for laboratory testing
"Na Noi" hospital and the public health office in the province collected samples of the dietary supplement and sent them to a regional medical science center for analysis.
The tests focus on detecting any contaminants or potential pharmaceutical compounds that could be related to the symptoms experienced by the participants.
Police interview the distributor
The relevant authorities have begun investigating the circumstances of the incident, while police officials met with a representative of the product distributor to gather information about the supplement and the conditions under which it was offered to the participants.
The distributor claimed that facial and body redness and vascular dilation are natural effects of the product, but the authorities confirmed that this explanation requires an official medical and laboratory evaluation.
Awaiting test results
The results of the laboratory tests are still pending, so authorities have not yet confirmed that the dietary supplement was the direct cause of the participants experiencing these symptoms.
Health authorities have urged caution when consuming products that lack clear information about their ingredients and safety, and to consult a doctor immediately upon experiencing abnormal symptoms after consumption.
