أنقذ خفر السواحل الأمريكي ما لا يقل عن 40 شخصاً بعد انقلاب قارب بدائي كان يقل نحو 60 شخصاً في المياه غرب بورتوريكو، فيما عُثر على شخصين متوفيين، ولا تزال عمليات البحث مستمرة عن مفقودين في المنطقة المحيطة بجزيرة «مونا».
شجار ينتهي بكارثة وبحسب خفر السواحل الأمريكي، وقع الحادث في وقت متأخر من مساء (الأحد)، عندما اندلع شجار على متن القارب أثناء وجوده في البحر، وتعرض عدد من الموجودين على متنه لإصابات خطيرة باستخدام ساطور.
وأدت الفوضى التي أعقبت الشجار إلى انقلاب القارب، فيما اضطر عدد من ركابه إلى القفز في البحر دون ارتداء سترات نجاة، لتبدأ رحلة نجاة استمرت ساعات وسط المياه.
12 ساعة في المياه وظل عدد من الناجين في البحر لأكثر من 12 ساعة، قبل أن ترصد سفينة عابرة أشخاصاً في المياه قرب جزيرة «مونا» غير المأهولة، الواقعة بين بورتوريكو وجمهورية الدومينيكان.
وتمكنت السفينة من إنقاذ 4 أشخاص، قبل إبلاغ السلطات الأمريكية، التي أطلقت عملية بحث وإنقاذ واسعة في المنطقة.
40 ناجياً وجثمانان وشاركت وحدات تابعة لخفر السواحل وجهات أخرى في عمليات البحث، التي أسفرت عن إنقاذ ما لا يقل عن 40 شخصاً وانتشال جثماني شخصين.
ونُقل عدد من الناجين لتلقي الرعاية الطبية بعد إنقاذهم، في الوقت الذي واصلت فيه فرق الإنقاذ تمشيط المياه بحثاً عن أشخاص آخرين كانوا على متن القارب.
نحو 60 شخصاً على القارب وتشير المعلومات الأولية إلى أن القارب كان يحمل نحو 60 شخصاً قبل انقلابه، ما يعني أن عمليات البحث تركز على العثور على بقية الركاب الذين لم يُحدد مصيرهم.
ولم تعلن السلطات حصيلة نهائية للركاب حتى الآن، في ظل استمرار عمليات البحث والتحقق من أعداد الموجودين على متن القارب وقت وقوع الحادث.
هوية الركاب لا تزال مجهولة ولم تكشف السلطات حتى الآن عن جنسيات جميع الأشخاص الذين كانوا على متن القارب أو المكان الذي انطلق منه، فيما تواصل الجهات المختصة التحقيق في ملابسات الرحلة والحادث.

A Fight Ends in Disaster According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the incident occurred late on Sunday evening when a fight broke out on board the boat while it was at sea, resulting in several people on board sustaining serious injuries from a machete.
The chaos that followed the fight led to the capsizing of the boat, forcing several passengers to jump into the sea without wearing life jackets, beginning a survival journey that lasted for hours in the water.
12 Hours in the Water Several survivors remained in the water for more than 12 hours before a passing ship spotted people in the water near the uninhabited "Mona" Island, located between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
The ship managed to rescue 4 individuals before notifying U.S. authorities, who launched a large-scale search and rescue operation in the area.
40 Survivors and Two Bodies Units from the Coast Guard and other agencies participated in the search operations, which resulted in the rescue of at least 40 people and the recovery of the bodies of two individuals.
