تستعد جزر هاواي الأمريكية لمواجهة أمطار غزيرة وفيضانات مفاجئة مع اقتراب الإعصار «نولو»، الذي واصل اكتساب القوة، وسط تحذيرات رسمية من فيضانات قد تكون «كارثية ومهددة للحياة» خلال الساعات والأيام القادمة.
رياح بسرعة 120 كيلومتراً
وأفاد المركز الوطني للأعاصير الأمريكي بأن «نولو» تحول إلى إعصار، وبلغت سرعة رياحه القصوى المستمرة نحو 120 كيلومتراً في الساعة، فيما كان مركزه على بعد نحو 435 كيلومتراً جنوب «ساوث بوينت» في جزيرة هاواي الكبرى، ويتحرك باتجاه الشمال الشرقي بسرعة 7 كيلومترات في الساعة.
وتوقع المركز أن يواصل الإعصار اشتداده، مع إمكانية تحوله إلى إعصار كبير خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع.
أمطار تهدد بفيضانات خطرة
وحذر خبراء الأرصاد من أن الأمطار المصاحبة للإعصار قد تتسبب في فيضانات مفاجئة شديدة الخطورة في الجزيرة الكبرى، فيما أشارت التوقعات إلى إمكانية وصول كميات الأمطار في بعض المناطق إلى نحو 3 أقدام «نحو 90 سنتيمتراً».
ووضعت السلطات أجزاء من الجزيرة الكبرى تحت تحذير من العاصفة الاستوائية ومراقبة الإعصار، كما شملت مراقبة العاصفة الاستوائية مناطق في مقاطعة ماوي، بالتزامن مع الاستعداد لتأثيرات الأمطار والرياح خلال نهاية الأسبوع.
أمواج ورياح قوية
ومن المتوقع أن ترافق «نولو» رياح قوية وأمواج خطرة، فيما تتركز المخاوف على الأمطار الغزيرة واحتمال حدوث سيول وانهيارات طينية، خصوصاً مع استمرار تأثير الإعصار على الجزيرة الكبرى خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع.
The American Hawaiian Islands are preparing for heavy rains and flash floods as Hurricane "Nolu" approaches, which continues to gain strength, amid official warnings of potentially "catastrophic and life-threatening" floods in the coming hours and days.
Winds at 120 kilometers per hour
The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that "Nolu" has become a hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of about 120 kilometers per hour, while its center is located approximately 435 kilometers south of "South Point" on the Big Island of Hawaii, moving northeast at a speed of 7 kilometers per hour.
The center expects the hurricane to continue intensifying, with the possibility of it becoming a major hurricane over the weekend.
Rain Threatening Dangerous Floods
Weather experts warned that the rains accompanying the hurricane could cause severe flash floods on the Big Island, with forecasts indicating that rainfall amounts in some areas could reach about 3 feet (approximately 90 centimeters).
Authorities have placed parts of the Big Island under a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch, while the tropical storm watch also includes areas in Maui County, coinciding with preparations for the effects of rain and winds over the weekend.
Strong Waves and Winds
It is expected that "Nolu" will bring strong winds and dangerous waves, with concerns focused on heavy rainfall and the potential for flash floods and landslides, especially as the hurricane continues to impact the Big Island over the weekend.
