The Cairo Economic Court in Egypt today (Saturday) concluded the case of a content creator accused of posting videos on social media promoting ideas about polyamory and "unattributed childbirth," sentencing her to one year in prison with hard labor.
The ruling came in light of accusations that she used social media to disseminate content promoting what the authorities described as the "benefits of polyamory," inciting others to adopt these ideas, in a case that sparked controversy on social media platforms.
How Did the Incident Begin?
The details of the case date back to last July when the General Administration for the Protection of Morality in the Specialized Police Sector monitored videos posted by the content creator on her social media accounts.
According to investigations by security agencies and a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Interior, the videos promoted ideas related to polyamory, along with discussions about "unattributed childbirth," which the authorities considered contrary to public morals and societal values.
On July 9, 2026, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of the accused, stating that she resides in the precinct of the Matariya Police Station in Cairo. A mobile phone was found in her possession, and upon examination, the statement indicated that there were evidence and videos related to the accused activity.
Increase in Views and Profits
According to the Ministry of Interior's statement, the accused admitted during her confrontation with the investigations that she filmed and published the videos in question, indicating that her goal in posting this content was to increase viewership and generate financial profits through interactions on her social media accounts.
Following her arrest, legal actions were taken against her, and she was referred to the Public Prosecution to initiate investigations before being sent to the Economic Court to consider the case.
Controversy on Social Media
The circulated videos sparked controversy among users of social media platforms, especially as they addressed ideas related to marital relationships and polyamory.
Reactions to the published content varied, with part of the discussion revolving around the compatibility of the ideas presented by the content creator with the prevailing religious, social, and legal frameworks in Egypt.
One-Year Prison Sentence
After reviewing the case, the Cairo Economic Court sentenced the content creator to one year in prison with hard labor, based on the charges related to the content she posted on social media.
