عثرت السلطات الإيطالية على رأس تمساح مجفف داخل حقيبة مسافر إيطالي لدى وصوله إلى مطار تورينو كازيل «ساندرو بيرتيني»، قادماً من مدينة ميامي الأمريكية عبر إسطنبول.
وجرى اكتشاف رأس التمساح خلال عملية تفتيش نفذها مسؤولو وكالة الجمارك والاحتكارات بالتعاون مع عناصر الشرطة المالية الإيطالية، ضمن إجراءات مكافحة الاتجار غير المشروع بالأنواع المحمية والمهددة بالانقراض.

وأظهرت عملية التفتيش أن رأس التمساح كان مجففاً وملفوفاً بورق تغليف عادي داخل أمتعة المسافر، فيما صادرت السلطات الإيطالية الرأس بعد اكتشافه.
وينتمي التمساح إلى «Crocodylia spp»، وهي من الأنواع المشمولة بالحماية بموجب اتفاقية واشنطن «CITES» التي تنظم التجارة الدولية في أنواع الحيوانات والنباتات البرية المهددة بالانقراض.
غرامة تصل إلى 200 ألف يورو أو السجن
وأبلغت السلطات عن المسافر، وهو طليق، للاشتباه في استيراده عينة من نوع محمي دون حيازة الشهادة أو الترخيص اللازمين.
وبموجب القانون الإيطالي، تصل عقوبة المخالفة المنسوبة إليه، في حال إدانته، إلى غرامة تتراوح بين 20 ألفاً و200 ألف يورو، أو السجن لمدة تتراوح بين ستة أشهر وعام.
وتأتي الواقعة في إطار تكثيف السلطات الإيطالية عمليات التفتيش خلال فترة الصيف، خصوصاً على الرحلات التي تعد أكثر عرضة لمخاطر الاتجار غير المشروع بالأنواع المحمية.
The Italian authorities discovered a dried crocodile head inside the luggage of an Italian traveler upon his arrival at Turin Caselle Airport "Sandro Pertini," coming from Miami, USA, via Istanbul.
The crocodile head was found during an inspection carried out by customs officials in collaboration with Italian financial police, as part of efforts to combat the illegal trade in protected and endangered species.

The Crocodile Head Wrapped in Packaging Paper
The inspection revealed that the crocodile head was dried and wrapped in ordinary packaging paper inside the traveler's luggage, and the Italian authorities confiscated the head after its discovery.
The crocodile belongs to "Crocodylia spp," which are species protected under the Washington Convention "CITES" that regulates international trade in endangered wild animal and plant species.
Fines Up to 200,000 Euros or Imprisonment
The authorities reported the traveler, who is free, on suspicion of importing a specimen of a protected species without the necessary certificate or permit.
Under Italian law, the penalty for the alleged offense, if convicted, can result in a fine ranging from 20,000 to 200,000 euros, or imprisonment for a period of six months to one year.
This incident comes as part of the intensified inspections by Italian authorities during the summer period, particularly on flights that are more susceptible to the risks of illegal trade in protected species.
