A diabolical scheme to exploit judicial pursuit campaigns ended with a resounding slap, after fake threat messages ensnared fraudsters in Iraq. In a security and judicial blow to those exploiting corruption files, the Third Criminal Court of Karkh, in the presence of the defendants, issued a severe prison sentence of four years against two individuals who impersonated government employees, putting an end to their criminal scheme.
The Federal Integrity Commission revealed details of the case, as the defendants impersonated official employees of the commission and sent direct threat and extortion messages to several officials in Anbar Province.
The fraudsters relied on a clever trick to terrorize the officials by misleading them into believing that their names were included in "serious confessions" of a currently detained member of the parliament, claiming they could resolve these complex cases and clear the files permanently in exchange for large sums of money and financial benefits.
The "Commission" confirmed that the court, after reviewing the evidence and digital proofs obtained in the case, reached complete conviction of the defendants' guilt and the establishment of the crime, thus issuing its deterrent decision in accordance with the provisions of Decision (160 of 1983) as amended.
The Iraqi Integrity Commission reiterated its strict warnings to all institutions, officials, and Iraqi citizens against falling into the trap of gangs that exploit judicial pursuit campaigns, urging them not to respond to any claims outside official contexts and to report immediately.
