لقي 10 أشخاص مقتلهم وأصيب 64 آخرون، إثر انفجار مواد مخصصة للألعاب النارية خلال مهرجان ديني في بلدة تماسكالسينجو بولاية مكسيكو وسط البلاد، وفقاً للسلطات المكسيكية.
ووقع الانفجار مساء (السبت) بالقرب من كنيسة «نوسترا سينيورا دي لا لوس» في تماسكالسينجو، وهي بلدية يبلغ عدد سكانها نحو 66 ألف نسمة، بينما كان مئات الأشخاص يستعدون لمشاهدة عرض للألعاب النارية ضمن فعاليات مهرجان ديني مخصص لقديسة البلدة.
وأدى الانفجار إلى انهيار جدار في موقع الحادثة، فيما هرع الحاضرون إلى المكان وسط حالة من الفوضى والدخان والحطام بحثاً عن ناجين ومصابين.
وتقع تماسكالسينجو على بعد نحو 160 كيلومتراً شمال غربي العاصمة مكسيكو سيتي.
تحقيق لتحديد أسباب الانفجار
ولم تحدد السلطات المكسيكية حتى الآن سبب انفجار المواد النارية، فيما أعلنت النيابة العامة في ولاية مكسيكو فتح تحقيق للوقوف على ملابسات الحادثة وتحديد المسؤوليات المحتملة.
وقال أسقف محلي إن اثنين من الكهنة كانا من بين المصابين في الانفجار.
وأظهر مقطع فيديو جرى تداوله عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي مشاهد من موقع الحادثة بعد الانفجار، حيث بدا عشرات الأشخاص وهم يتحركون وسط الدخان وركام المباني بحثاً عن ناجين.
حوادث الألعاب النارية متكررة في المكسيك
وتعد حوادث الانفجارات المرتبطة بالألعاب النارية شائعة في المكسيك، حيث تستخدم الألعاب النارية على نطاق واسع خلال الاحتفالات الشعبية والمهرجانات الدينية التي تقام في الشوارع والبلدات.
وقبل نحو أربعة أعوام، أسفر انفجار قوي للألعاب النارية في قرية تابعة لبلدية هيوخوتلا بولاية هيدالغو وسط المكسيك عن إصابة 17 شخصاً.
Ten people were killed and 64 others were injured due to an explosion of materials intended for fireworks during a religious festival in the town of Temascalcingo in the State of Mexico, according to Mexican authorities.
The explosion occurred on Saturday evening near the church of "Nuestra Señora de la Luz" in Temascalcingo, a municipality with a population of about 66,000, while hundreds of people were preparing to watch a fireworks display as part of the religious festival dedicated to the town's saint.
The explosion caused a wall at the site of the incident to collapse, as attendees rushed to the area amid chaos, smoke, and debris in search of survivors and the injured.
Temascalcingo is located about 160 kilometers northwest of Mexico City.
Investigation to Determine the Causes of the Explosion
The Mexican authorities have not yet determined the cause of the explosion of the fireworks, while the public prosecutor's office in the State of Mexico announced the opening of an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify potential responsibilities.
A local bishop stated that two priests were among those injured in the explosion.
A video circulated on social media showed scenes from the site of the incident after the explosion, where dozens of people appeared to be moving through the smoke and rubble in search of survivors.
Firework Incidents Are Common in Mexico
Explosions related to fireworks are common in Mexico, where fireworks are widely used during popular celebrations and religious festivals held in the streets and towns.
About four years ago, a powerful explosion of fireworks in a village belonging to the municipality of Huejutla in the State of Hidalgo in central Mexico resulted in 17 injuries.
