تحولت رحلة جوية أمريكية إلى حالة من الفوضى والتوتر، بعدما أثار راكب يبلغ من العمر 67 عاماً سلوكاً عدوانياً على متن الطائرة، ما دفع إلى تحويل مسارها والهبوط في مطار آخر، قبل أن يتمكن ركاب وطاقم الطائرة من السيطرة عليه وتقييده.
وأفادت شبكة «ABC News» بأن الشرطة ألقت القبض على آرثر لوندين، من ولاية أريزونا، بتهمة السلوك غير المنضبط على متن الرحلة رقم «AA 618» التابعة للخطوط الجوية الأمريكية، التي أقلعت من دالاس متجهة إلى نيوارك، قبل تحويل مسارها إلى مطار بالتيمور واشنطن الدولي، مساء الخميس.
تقييد داخل الطائرة
ووفقاً لشرطة هيئة النقل في ولاية ماريلاند، جرى تقييد لوندين في مقعده باستخدام شريط لاصق، إلى جانب تقييد يديه بأربطة بلاستيكية، وظل على هذه الحالة حتى هبوط الطائرة، حيث صعد أفراد الأمن إلى متنها واقتادوه إلى الحجز.
شتائم واعتداء
وقال خوان ميخيا، أحد ركاب الرحلة وضابط إنفاذ قانون سابق، إن الواقعة بدأت بعد مرور نحو ثلاثة أرباع الرحلة، عندما بدأ لوندين، الذي كان يجلس في الصف الثاني خلفه، في التصرف بصورة عدوانية وتوجيه عبارات مهينة إلى طاقم الطائرة والركاب، تضمنت شتائم عنصرية وألفاظاً بذيئة ومسيئة للنساء.
وأضاف ميخيا أنَّه وصديقه ريتشارد أولينيك تدخلا بعدما قالا إن الراكب اعتدى عليهما جسدياً، موضحاً أن تدخلهما كان بهدف السيطرة عليه وتهدئة الموقف ومنع تصاعده، وليس إيذاءه.
هبوط اضطراري
ولم تكشف السلطات الأمريكية جميع ملابسات الواقعة، فيما تواصل إدارة الطيران الفيدرالية التحقيق فيها. وأفادت الإدارة بأن الطائرة غيّرت مسارها وهبطت في مطار بالتيمور واشنطن الدولي نحو الساعة 10:15 مساءً.
وأكدت الخطوط الجوية الأمريكية إنزال الراكب من الطائرة عقب هبوطها، قبل أن تستأنف الرحلة مسارها إلى نيوارك.
وتتعامل السلطات الأمريكية مع حالات السلوك المشاغب على متن الطائرات وفق إجراءات قانونية تختلف بحسب طبيعة المخالفة وتأثيرها على سلامة الرحلة، فيما قد يواجه المتسببون في اضطرابات خطيرة عقوبات مدنية أو مساءلة جنائية.
An American flight turned into a scene of chaos and tension after a 67-year-old passenger exhibited aggressive behavior on board, prompting a diversion and landing at another airport, before passengers and crew were able to subdue and restrain him.
ABC News reported that police arrested Arthur Lundin, from Arizona, for unruly behavior on American Airlines flight "AA 618," which took off from Dallas heading to Newark, before its route was changed to Baltimore/Washington International Airport on Thursday evening.
Restraint on the Plane
According to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Lundin was restrained in his seat using duct tape, along with having his hands bound with plastic ties, and remained in this condition until the plane landed, where security personnel boarded and took him into custody.
Abuse and Assault
Juan Mejia, one of the passengers and a former law enforcement officer, stated that the incident began after about three-quarters of the flight, when Lundin, who was sitting in the second row behind him, started acting aggressively and directing insulting remarks at the crew and passengers, including racist slurs and vulgar, misogynistic language.
Mejia added that he and his friend Richard Olienik intervened after claiming that the passenger physically assaulted them, explaining that their intervention was aimed at controlling him and calming the situation to prevent it from escalating, not to harm him.
Emergency Landing
U.S. authorities did not disclose all the details of the incident, while the Federal Aviation Administration continues to investigate. The agency reported that the plane changed its course and landed at Baltimore/Washington International Airport around 10:15 PM.
American Airlines confirmed the removal of the passenger from the plane after it landed, before the flight resumed its route to Newark.
