سجّلت العاصمة البريطانية لندن أكثر من ألف بلاغ عن حوادث كراهية أو تحيّز ضد المسلمين خلال النصف الأول من العام الحالي، متجاوزة إجمالي البلاغات التي رصدتها منظمة «تيل ماما» خلال عام 2023 بأكمله، في مؤشر على تصاعد حوادث الكراهية المعادية للمسلمين.
أرقام تتجاوز عامًا كاملًا
وبحسب بيانات «تيل ماما»، وهي منظمة بريطانية مستقلة معنية برصد وتوثيق الكراهية المعادية للمسلمين، بلغ عدد التقارير المسجلة في لندن 1031 بلاغًا بين يناير ونهاية يونيو، مقابل 1028 بلاغًا خلال عام 2023 بأكمله.
وتكشف البيانات عن تصاعد أعداد البلاغات خلال السنوات الأخيرة؛ إذ ارتفعت من 313 تقريرًا في 2021 إلى 818 في 2022، ثم 1028 في 2023، قبل أن تقفز إلى 1909 تقارير خلال العام الماضي، وهو أعلى مستوى سنوي مسجل حتى الآن.
تصاعد مقلق
وقالت مديرة منظمة «تيل ماما» إيمان عطا إن المسار التصاعدي للأرقام يثير القلق، مشيرة إلى ارتفاع عدد البلاغات من أكثر من 300 حالة في عام 2021 إلى أكثر من ألف بلاغ خلال النصف الأول من العام الحالي وحده.
وأضافت أن تصاعد وتيرة الاستهداف ومستويات الغضب الموجه ضد المسلمين يترك الضحايا وهم يشعرون بأن أمنهم الشخصي أصبح مهددًا، داعية إلى تبني إستراتيجيات أكثر قوة لمواجهة التطرف والكراهية.
وأكدت المنظمة أن الأرقام لا تمثل مجرد إحصاءات، بل تقف وراء كل بلاغ منها حالة إنسانية لشخص يعيش في لندن ويشعر بعدم الأمان بسبب دينه، مشددة على ضرورة التعامل مع الظاهرة باعتبارها قضية تمس التماسك المجتمعي.
الشرطة تتعهد بالمواجهة
في المقابل، أكدت شرطة العاصمة البريطانية عدم التهاون مع الاعتداءات التي تستهدف المسلمين، مشيرة إلى أن جرائم الكراهية بمختلف أشكالها تمثل إحدى أولوياتها.
وقال متحدث باسم شرطة العاصمة إن جهود مكافحة جرائم الكراهية بدأت تحقق نتائج، موضحًا أن الشرطة سجلت خلال الأشهر الـ12 الماضية زيادة بنسبة 57% في النتائج الإيجابية، بما يشمل الاعتقالات وتوجيه الاتهامات، في جرائم الكراهية ضد المسلمين.
من جانبه، أكد متحدث باسم عمدة لندن أن «كراهية المسلمين ليس لها مكان مطلقًا في لندن»، واصفًا ارتفاع الهجمات ضد المسلمين في العاصمة وفي أنحاء بريطانيا بأنه أمر «بغيض»، مؤكدًا دعم عمدة لندن لسياسة عدم التسامح مع هذه الأعمال.
البلاغات لا تعني الإدانة
وتعتمد منظمة «تيل ماما» في رصدها على البلاغات التي تتلقاها بشأن حوادث معادية للمسلمين، ولذلك فإن زيادة عدد التقارير لا تعني بالضرورة ثبوت جميع الوقائع جنائيًا، لكنها تعطي مؤشرًا على حجم الحوادث التي يتم الإبلاغ عنها ومستوى الشعور بعدم الأمان بين المتضررين.
The British capital, London, recorded more than a thousand reports of hate incidents or bias against Muslims during the first half of this year, surpassing the total reports documented by the organization "Tell Mama" for the entire year of 2023, indicating a rise in anti-Muslim hate incidents.
Numbers Surpassing a Whole Year
According to data from "Tell Mama," an independent British organization concerned with monitoring and documenting anti-Muslim hate, the number of reports recorded in London reached 1,031 between January and the end of June, compared to 1,028 reports during the entire year of 2023.
The data reveals a rise in the number of reports in recent years; it increased from 313 reports in 2021 to 818 in 2022, then to 1,028 in 2023, before jumping to 1,909 reports during the last year, which is the highest annual level recorded to date.
Worrying Increase
Iman Atta, the director of "Tell Mama," stated that the upward trend in the numbers is concerning, noting that the number of reports has risen from over 300 cases in 2021 to over a thousand reports during the first half of this year alone.
She added that the increasing pace of targeting and levels of anger directed against Muslims leave victims feeling that their personal safety has become threatened, calling for the adoption of stronger strategies to combat extremism and hatred.
The organization emphasized that the numbers do not merely represent statistics; behind each report is a human case of a person living in London who feels unsafe because of their religion, stressing the need to address the phenomenon as an issue that affects social cohesion.
Police Commit to Confrontation
In contrast, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that they will not tolerate attacks targeting Muslims, stating that hate crimes in all their forms are one of their priorities.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said that efforts to combat hate crimes have begun to yield results, explaining that the police recorded a 57% increase in positive outcomes over the past 12 months, including arrests and charges in hate crimes against Muslims.
For his part, a spokesperson for the Mayor of London affirmed that "Islamophobia has no place whatsoever in London," describing the rise in attacks against Muslims in the capital and across Britain as "abhorrent," and confirming the Mayor's support for a zero-tolerance policy towards these acts.
Reports Do Not Mean Conviction
"Tell Mama" relies on the reports it receives regarding anti-Muslim incidents for its monitoring, and thus, an increase in the number of reports does not necessarily mean that all incidents have been proven criminally, but it does provide an indication of the scale of incidents being reported and the level of insecurity felt by those affected.
