A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern region of Aleppo province in Syria this morning, according to the National Earthquake Center.
The center clarified that the tremor occurred about 107 kilometers (northwest of the city of Aleppo), along the Dead Sea faults, an area considered one of the most seismically active regions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Since the beginning of the year, northern and northwestern Syria has experienced a series of light to moderate tremors, attributed to the complex tectonic nature of the region, which lies at the intersection of the Arabian and Anatolian plates, making it susceptible to recurring geological disturbances.
The new tremor comes days after similar seismic activity was recorded around Idlib and Latakia, prompting relevant authorities to continuously monitor the geological situation.
Local sources confirmed that residents in some areas near the Syrian-Turkish border felt the tremor, with no reports of human or material damage so far, while authorities emphasized the need to adhere to safety measures, especially in areas with buildings damaged by the February 2023 earthquake.
The National Earthquake Center continues to monitor seismic activity in the region, amid expectations of light aftershocks in the coming hours, which is a normal occurrence in such cases, according to geology experts.
