أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية بدء تجربة سريرية لعلاجين لفيروس بونديبوغيو المسبب لإيبولا في جمهورية الكونغو الديموقراطية التي تواجه تفشيًا وبائيًا متسارعًا.
وقال المدير العام للمنظمة تيدروس أدهانوم غيبرييسوس خلال مؤتمر صحفي: «انطلقت اليوم التجربة السريرية الخاصة بتقييم علاجين، مع تسجيل أول مريض للمشاركة فيها».
ومن شأن هذه التجربة التي أطلقت تحت اسم «بارتنرز» أن تسمح بتقييم فعالية الجسم المضاد الوحيد والمضاد الفيروسي عند إعطائهما معًا أو كلًا على حدة.
ويتولّى المعهد الوطني للأبحاث الطبية الحيوية في الكونغو الديموقراطية إدارة هذه الدراسة بدعم من مجموعة من الشركاء، بينهم منظمة الصحة العالمية.
وأشار تيدروس إلى أن المرضى الذين يشاركون في التجربة سيستفيدون من رعاية كاملة ومتابعة دقيقة، مضيفًا: سنحرص على توفير العقارين لهم إن تبيّن أنهما آمنان وفاعلان.
وفي المجموع، أحصت السلطات الكونغولية 438 وفاة و1406 إصابات، أي معدّل إماتة بنسبة 31,2%، منذ إعلان هذه الموجة السابعة عشرة من تفشّي الفيروس في 25 مايو الماضي.
The World Health Organization announced the start of a clinical trial for two treatments for the Bundibugyo virus, which causes Ebola, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is facing a rapidly escalating outbreak.
The organization's Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said during a press conference: "Today, the clinical trial to evaluate two treatments has begun, with the first patient enrolled to participate."
This trial, launched under the name "Partners," will allow for the assessment of the effectiveness of the monoclonal antibody and the antiviral when given together or separately.
The National Institute for Biomedical Research in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is managing this study with the support of a group of partners, including the World Health Organization.
Tedros noted that patients participating in the trial will receive comprehensive care and close monitoring, adding: "We will ensure that the two drugs are provided to them if they are found to be safe and effective."
In total, Congolese authorities have reported 438 deaths and 1,406 infections, resulting in a mortality rate of 31.2%, since the announcement of this seventeenth wave of the virus outbreak on May 25.
