في لحظات بدت عادية داخل مبنى يضم مركزاً تعليمياً ومتجراً للحيوانات الأليفة وعيادة بيطرية، تحولت مدينة لكناو بولاية أوتار براديش شمال الهند إلى موقع مأساوي، بعدما اندلع حريق مروّع أودى بحياة 14 شخصاً على الأقل، معظمهم من الطلاب.
ووفقاً لتقارير إعلامية محلية، اندلع الحريق داخل المبنى التجاري، قبل أن يتصاعد الدخان بكثافة ويغمر الواجهة الأمامية، ما دفع عدداً من الطلاب إلى محاولة الفرار عبر الممرات الخلفية والنوافذ. وأظهرت مقاطع متداولة على مواقع التواصل لحظات ارتباك شديد، إذ حاول بعض المحاصرين النجاة بالقفز من النوافذ مع اشتداد ألسنة اللهب.
وقال نائب رئيس وزراء ولاية أوتار براديش، براجيش باثاك، إن كثافة الدخان كانت السبب الرئيسي في إعاقة عمليات الإخلاء، موضحاً أن معظم الضحايا تراوح أعمارهم بين 16 و18 عاماً. وأضاف أن بعض الطلاب لم يتمكنوا من الوصول إلى مخارج الطوارئ، فيما اضطر رجال الإطفاء إلى هدم جدار خلفي للمبنى للوصول إلى العالقين وإنقاذ من تمكنوا من النجاة.
وبحسب السلطات، جرى نقل ما لا يقل عن 10 مصابين إلى المستشفيات لتلقي العلاج، وسط استمرار عمليات التقييم الطبي لحالاتهم.
ووصف باثاك الحادث بأنه «مؤلم ومفجع للغاية»، مقدماً تعازيه لأسر الضحايا، ومؤكداً توجيه الجهات المختصة لتقديم الدعم اللازم للعائلات المتضررة.
وفي السياق ذاته، أعلنت السلطات الهندية فتح تحقيق رفيع المستوى للوقوف على أسباب الحريق وملابساته، مع التأكيد على أن أي تقصير أو مسؤولية سيتم التعامل معه وفق الإجراءات القانونية دون استثناء.

According to local media reports, the fire erupted inside the commercial building before thick smoke billowed and engulfed the front facade, prompting several students to attempt to escape through back corridors and windows. Videos circulated on social media showed moments of intense confusion, as some of those trapped tried to survive by jumping from the windows as the flames intensified.
Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, stated that the density of the smoke was the main reason hindering evacuation efforts, explaining that most of the victims were aged between 16 and 18 years. He added that some students were unable to reach the emergency exits, while firefighters had to demolish a rear wall of the building to reach those trapped and rescue those who managed to survive.
According to authorities, at least 10 injured individuals were transported to hospitals for treatment, as medical assessments of their conditions continued.
Pathak described the incident as "extremely painful and tragic," extending his condolences to the families of the victims and confirming that relevant authorities had been directed to provide necessary support to the affected families.
In this context, Indian authorities announced the initiation of a high-level investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire, emphasizing that any negligence or responsibility would be addressed according to legal procedures without exception.
