في لحظات قليلة، تحولت محاولة لإبعاد فيل بري عن أحد حقول الأرز في الهند إلى مواجهة خطرة، إذ كان عدد من الأشخاص يحاولون دفع الحيوان إلى الابتعاد باستخدام مصابيح نارية، لكن الفيل فاجأهم بالاندفاع نحوهم، لتتحول محاولات إخافته إلى سباق للنجاة.
وأظهر مقطع مصور الفيل وهو يشق طريقه وسط الوحل الذي يصل إلى مستوى الركبة، بينما كان الأشخاص يلوحون بالمصابيح في محاولة لإبعاده. إلا أن الحيوان اندفع باتجاه المجموعة، ما دفع أفرادها إلى الفرار بحثاً عن مكان آمن، فيما بدا في التسجيل أن الفيل دهس بعض الأشخاص أثناء محاولتهم الهرب.
وشارك السكرتير الخاص لرئيس وزراء ولاية أوتاراخاند الدكتور بي إم داكاتي، المقطع، موضحاً أن الأفيال قادرة على التحرك بسرعة كبيرة حتى في الأراضي الموحلة التي يجد البشر صعوبة في السير فوقها.
وأشار داكاتي إلى أن الأقدام العريضة للفيل تساعده على توزيع وزنه فوق الأرض الرخوة، ما يمنحه قدرة على الحركة والتسارع خلال وقت قصير، محذراً من الاعتقاد بأن وجود مسافة بين الإنسان والفيل يعني بالضرورة الأمان.
وأوضح أن محاولة إخافة الأفيال بالصراخ أو الأضواء أو المفرقعات قد تؤدي إلى نتيجة عكسية، إذ يمكن أن تزيد من شعورها بالخطر وتدفعها إلى اتخاذ موقف دفاعي أو مهاجمة الأشخاص القريبين منها.
ونصح داكاتي، عند مواجهة فيل بري، بالابتعاد عنه وترك مسافة آمنة، مع تجنب محاصرته أو الوقوف في طريق هروبه.
وتسلط الواقعة الضوء على خطورة الاقتراب من الحيوانات البرية أو محاولة استفزازها، خصوصاً الأفيال التي قد تبدو حركتها بطيئة، لكنها قادرة على الانطلاق بسرعة عندما تشعر بالتهديد.

A video showed the elephant making its way through mud that reached knee level, while people waved their torches in an attempt to drive it away. However, the animal charged at the group, causing its members to flee in search of a safe place, while the footage appeared to show the elephant trampling some individuals as they tried to escape.
The private secretary to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Dr. P.M. Dakhati, shared the clip, explaining that elephants can move very quickly even in muddy terrain that humans find difficult to walk on.
Dakhati pointed out that the elephant's large feet help distribute its weight over soft ground, giving it the ability to move and accelerate in a short time, warning against the assumption that a distance between a human and an elephant necessarily means safety.
He clarified that trying to scare elephants with shouting, lights, or fireworks could have the opposite effect, as it might increase their sense of danger and prompt them to take a defensive stance or attack nearby individuals.
Dakhati advised that when encountering a wild elephant, one should move away and maintain a safe distance, avoiding cornering it or standing in the way of its escape.
This incident highlights the dangers of approaching wild animals or attempting to provoke them, especially elephants, which may seem slow-moving but can sprint quickly when they feel threatened.
