لقي ما لا يقل عن 55 شخصاً مصرعهم، وأصيب العشرات بجروح، جراء انفجار ضخم وقع في قرية كاونج تات التابعة لبلدة نامخام في ولاية شان شمالي ميانمار، وفقاً لما أفادت به مصادر محلية وهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية «BBC».
ووقع الانفجار في منطقة تخضع لسيطرة قوات المتمردين قرب الحدود مع الصين.
ونقلت «BBC» عن مصدر مطلع أن من بين القتلى 25 امرأة و30 رجلاً، إضافة إلى أطفال. ولا تزال فرق الإنقاذ تواصل عمليات البحث تحت الأنقاض بحثاً عن محاصرين.
وأعلن جيش تحرير تانج الوطني، الذي يسيطر على المنطقة، أن سبب الانفجار يعود إلى مواد متفجرة تستخدم في أعمال التعدين واستخراج الأحجار.

وذكر سكان محليون أن العديد من الأهالي اعتقدوا في البداية أن الانفجار ناتج عن غارة جوية، قبل أن يتضح أنه حادثة صناعية، إذ تسبب الانفجار في تدمير مئات المنازل، مما ألحق أضراراً جسيمة بمعظم أنحاء الحي.
وتُعد ولاية شان شمالي ميانمار منطقة غنية بالمعادن والأحجار الكريمة، وتشهد نشاطاً تعدينياً واسعاً، غالباً ما يكون غير منظم ويتم تحت سيطرة جماعات مسلحة.

وتُستخدم كميات كبيرة من المتفجرات في هذه العمليات، مما يجعل الحوادث المتكررة خطراً دائماً على السكان المحليين.
ويأتي هذا الانفجار المروع وسط الصراع المسلح المستمر في ميانمار منذ انقلاب المجلس العسكري في فبراير 2021، إذ تخوض عدة جماعات مسلحة قتالاً ضد الجيش الحاكم.

وغالباً ما تؤدي مثل هذه الحوادث إلى تفاقم الأزمة الإنسانية في المناطق النائية، خصوصاً مع صعوبة وصول فرق الإغاثة بسبب التوترات الأمنية.
وتُعد منطقة نامخام قريبة جداً من الحدود الصينية، مما يجعلها ذات أهمية إستراتيجية واقتصادية، إذ تنشط فيها تجارة الحدود وأعمال التعدين غير الرسمية.
At least 55 people have been killed, and dozens injured, due to a massive explosion that occurred in the village of Kaung Tat, part of the Namkham township in Shan State, northern Myanmar, according to local sources and the British Broadcasting Corporation "BBC".
The explosion took place in an area controlled by rebel forces near the border with China.
The "BBC" reported from an informed source that among the dead were 25 women and 30 men, in addition to children. Rescue teams are still continuing their search operations under the rubble for those trapped.
The National Liberation Army of Tang, which controls the area, announced that the cause of the explosion was due to explosives used in mining and stone extraction.

Local residents mentioned that many people initially thought the explosion was the result of an airstrike, before it became clear that it was an industrial accident, as the explosion destroyed hundreds of homes, causing severe damage to most parts of the neighborhood.
Shan State in northern Myanmar is known to be rich in minerals and gemstones, and it experiences extensive mining activity, which is often unregulated and under the control of armed groups.

This horrific explosion comes amid the ongoing armed conflict in Myanmar since the military coup in February 2021, as several armed groups are fighting against the ruling army.

The Namkham area is very close to the Chinese border, making it of strategic and economic importance, as cross-border trade and informal mining activities thrive there.
