لقي رجل يبلغ من العمر 39 عاماً مصرعه، الأحد، بعد تعرضه لهجوم سمكة قرش أثناء رحلة صيد في منطقة الحاجز المرجاني العظيم شمال ولاية كوينزلاند.
وبحسب ما أوردته صحيفة «الغارديان»، كان الرجل يمارس الصيد في شعاب «كينيدي شول»، وهي منطقة مرجانية ضحلة تبعد نحو 50 كيلومتراً عن ساحل كوينزلاند، وتُعرف بكونها وجهة شهيرة لمحبي الصيد والغوص.
وأفادت التقارير بأن أجهزة الطوارئ تلقت بلاغاً بالحادثة نحو منتصف النهار، إذ جرى نقل الضحية في حالة حرجة للغاية إلى ممر القوارب بمنطقة «هال ريفير هيدز» القريبة من بلدة تولي، إلا أنه فارق الحياة فور وصوله متأثراً بإصاباته البالغة.
من جهتها، أعلنت شرطة كوينزلاند فتح تحقيق رسمي وإعداد تقرير للمحقق الشرعي لكشف ملابسات الوفاة. ولم تُحدد السلطات حتى الآن نوع القرش المتسبب في الهجوم، فيما يشير خبراء الأحياء البحرية إلى انتشار قروش الثور والنمر في مياه الحاجز المرجاني العظيم، بينما يُعد القرش الأبيض الكبير أقل ظهوراً في تلك المنطقة الدافئة.
A 39-year-old man was killed on Sunday after being attacked by a shark during a fishing trip in the Great Barrier Reef area north of Queensland.
According to the Guardian newspaper, the man was fishing at "Kennedy Shoal," a shallow coral reef located about 50 kilometers off the Queensland coast, known as a popular destination for fishing and diving enthusiasts.
Reports indicate that emergency services received a call about the incident around noon, and the victim was transported in extremely critical condition to the boat ramp at "Hall River Heads," near the town of Tully, but he died upon arrival due to his severe injuries.
For its part, Queensland Police announced the opening of an official investigation and the preparation of a report for the coroner to determine the circumstances of the death. Authorities have not yet identified the type of shark involved in the attack, while marine biology experts point to the presence of bull and tiger sharks in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, whereas great white sharks are less commonly seen in that warm area.
