استيقظت العاصمة العراقية بغداد، أمس (الإثنين)، على فاجعة مؤلمة، بعدما أقدمت امرأة في الثلاثينات من عمرها على إنهاء حياتها وحياة طفلها الرضيع (عامان) حرقاً داخل مسكنهما.
الضحية، التي تكسب قوتها من التنقل في شوارع المدينة، سَكبت مادة البنزين على جسدها وجسد صغيرها في منزلهما الواقع بمنطقة الشيخ عمر وسط العاصمة، قبل أن تشعل النار التي التهمتهما سريعاً. ورغم محاولات الإسعاف ونقلهما إلى المستشفى فور وقوع الحادث، إلا أن خطورة الحروق عجلت بوفاتهما.
السلطات الأمنية فتحت تحقيقاً رسمياً للوقوف على ملابسات الواقعة ودوافعها التي لا تزال مجهولة، في وقتٍ تشير المؤشرات العامة إلى ارتباط مثل هذه الحوادث بالفقر المدقع، والنزاعات العائلية الحادة، فضلاً عن الضغوط النفسية المتزايدة الناتجة عن تدهور الأوضاع المعيشية وانتشار المخدرات.
وتأتي هذه الحادثة الصادمة لتسلط الضوء مجدداً على تصاعد حالات إنهاء الحياة في البلاد، التي تراوح أساليبها غالباً بين الحرق والشنق وإطلاق النار. ورغم المحاولات الرسمية لتوثيق هذه الظاهرة، تواجه الجهات الحكومية تحدياً كبيراً في إحصاء الأرقام الفعلية، نتيجة تستر العديد من العائلات على هذه الحالات وإحجامها عن التبليغ، خضوعاً للأعراف الاجتماعية والاعتبارات الدينية السائدة.
The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, woke up yesterday (Monday) to a painful tragedy, after a woman in her thirties took her own life and that of her two-year-old baby by burning them both inside their home.
The victim, who earned her living by moving through the streets of the city, poured gasoline on her body and that of her child in their home located in the Sheikh Omar area in the heart of the capital, before igniting the fire that quickly consumed them. Despite attempts to provide first aid and rush them to the hospital immediately after the incident, the severity of the burns hastened their deaths.
The security authorities have opened an official investigation to determine the circumstances and motives behind the incident, which remain unknown. General indicators suggest that such incidents are linked to extreme poverty, severe family disputes, as well as increasing psychological pressures resulting from the deterioration of living conditions and the spread of drugs.
This shocking incident highlights once again the rise in cases of suicide in the country, which often vary in methods between burning, hanging, and shooting. Despite official attempts to document this phenomenon, government agencies face a significant challenge in counting the actual numbers, due to many families covering up these cases and hesitating to report them, yielding to prevailing social norms and religious considerations.
