تحولت نزهة عائلية في ولاية مين الأمريكية إلى تجربة مرعبة كادت تنتهي بفاجعة، بعدما تعرضت أنطوانيت ويب (44 عاماً)، لرد فعل تحسسي حاد إثر لمسها حشرة بدت في ظاهرها لافتة وجذابة.
وبحسب ما نقلته صحيفة «نيويورك بوست»، وقعت الحادثة داخل متنزه «فورت نوكس» العام، أثناء وجود ويب مع طفليها التوأم، حين لفتت انتباهها خنفساء خضراء زاهية اللون، لتلتقطها بدافع الفضول، دون أن تتوقع أن تتحول تلك اللحظة إلى أزمة طبية خطيرة خلال ثوانٍ معدودة.
فبعد لمس الحشرة، التي تبيّن لاحقاً أنها «خنفساء النمر ذات البقع الست»، بدأت أعراض صدمة تحسسية نادرة بالظهور عليها بشكل مفاجئ، وصفت بأنها من الحالات «شديدة الندرة». وسرعان ما شعرت بحرقة شديدة تسري في جسدها، قبل أن تتدهور حالتها بشكل سريع.
اندفعت ويب نحو متجر الهدايا داخل المتنزه طلباً للمساعدة، إلا أنها انهارت وفقدت وعيها بعد لحظات، وسط تدهور واضح في حالتها الصحية.
وبحسب شهود، فقد كان في المكان مسعف سابق في الجيش، تدخل فوراً وقدّم لها الإسعافات الأولية، في وقت كانت تعاني من صعوبة حادة في التنفس، وتورم في الحلق، مع تغير لون شفتيها إلى الأزرق، وهي علامات تشير إلى حالة تحسس خطيرة.
وأوضح المسعف أنها فقدت الوعي أكثر من مرة قبل وصول فرق الطوارئ، مشيراً إلى أن التدخل السريع باستخدام مضاد الحساسية ساهم في إنقاذ حياتها مؤقتاً حتى وصولها إلى المستشفى.
وفي المستشفى، خضعت ويب لجرعات مكثفة من عقار «الإبينفرين» بهدف استقرار حالتها، إذ تلقت أربع جرعات متتالية حتى تمت السيطرة على التفاعل التحسسي.
ورغم أن هذا النوع من الخنافس لا يُعد ساماً، إلا أن بعض حالات التلامس قد تؤدي إلى ردود فعل تحسسية خطيرة لدى فئة محدودة من الأشخاص، ما يجعل الحادثة بمثابة تحذير واضح لمرتادي المتنزهات من التعامل مع الحشرات مهما بدا مظهرها غير مؤذٍ.
A family outing in the state of Maine turned into a terrifying experience that nearly ended in tragedy, after Antoinette Webb (44 years old) suffered a severe allergic reaction upon touching an insect that appeared striking and attractive.
According to the New York Post, the incident occurred inside Fort Knox State Park while Webb was with her twin children, when a bright green beetle caught her attention. She picked it up out of curiosity, not expecting that this moment would turn into a serious medical crisis within seconds.
After touching the insect, which later turned out to be the "six-spotted tiger beetle," rare symptoms of an allergic shock began to appear suddenly, described as "extremely rare" cases. She quickly felt a severe burning sensation coursing through her body before her condition rapidly deteriorated.
Webb rushed to the gift shop inside the park seeking help, but she collapsed and lost consciousness moments later, amid a clear deterioration in her health condition.
According to witnesses, there was a former military medic on the scene who immediately intervened and provided her with first aid, at a time when she was experiencing severe difficulty breathing, swelling in her throat, and her lips had turned blue, which are signs indicating a serious allergic reaction.
The medic explained that she lost consciousness multiple times before the emergency teams arrived, noting that the quick intervention using an antihistamine helped save her life temporarily until she reached the hospital.
In the hospital, Webb underwent intensive doses of epinephrine to stabilize her condition, receiving four consecutive doses until the allergic reaction was controlled.
Although this type of beetle is not considered poisonous, some contact cases can lead to severe allergic reactions in a limited group of people, making the incident a clear warning for park visitors to avoid handling insects, no matter how harmless they may appear.
