تواصل نادي الاتحاد مع المغربي مهدي بن عطية، لتولي منصب مدير كرة القدم الجديد في نادي الاتحاد خلفاً للإسباني رامون بلانيس المدير الرياضي الغائب في الفترة الحالية والمقرر نهاية عمله مع نهاية الموسم الرياضي الحالي، وذلك بحسب تقارير إعلامية. إذ أكد الصحفي الإيطالي فابريزو رومانو أن الإدارة الاتحادية تواصلت مع الدولي المغربي السابق مهدي بن عطية (39 عاماً) لتولي منصب مدير كرة القدم الجديد في الاتحاد، خصوصا أن الإسباني رامون بلانيس بات على استعداد للمغادرة والانضمام إلى مشروع أوروبي جديد بعد نهاية تجربته رسمياً مع نادي الاتحاد، مشيراً في الوقت نفسه إلى أن اسم بن عطية مدرج مع قائمة طويلة من المديرين الرياضيين المقترحين لإدارة الاتحاد.
واعتزل المدافع المغربي صاحب الـ39 عاما «مهدي بن عطية» لعب كرة القدم في ديسمبر 2021، وبدأ عمله الإداري في نوفمبر 2023 كمستشار رياضي في نادي أولمبيك مارسيليا الفرنسي، ثم تحول إلى مدير رياضي في يناير 2025، قبل أن يعلن بن عطية استقالته قبل 3 أشهر.
ويمتلك قائد أسود الأطلس السابق مواصفات تجعله الخيار الأمثل لإدارة المرحلة القادمة في الاتحاد، خصوصاً أنه يمزج بين الخبرة الإدارية المصقولة في أولمبيك مارسيليا الفرنسي، والعلاقات الدولية بفضل مسيرته في يوفنتوس وبايرن ميونخ وروما، بالإضافة لمعرفته بمنطقة الخليج والدوري السعودي بفضل تجربته السابقة مع نادي الدحيل القطري.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Al-Ittihad management reached out to former Moroccan international Mehdi Benatia (39 years old) to assume the new Director of Football position at the club, especially since Spanish Ramon Planes is ready to leave and join a new European project after officially concluding his experience with Al-Ittihad, while also noting that Benatia's name is included in a long list of proposed sporting directors to manage Al-Ittihad.
Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia, aged 39, retired from football in December 2021 and began his administrative career in November 2023 as a sports advisor at French club Olympique Marseille, before becoming the sporting director in January 2025, only to announce his resignation three months ago.
The former captain of the Atlas Lions possesses qualities that make him the ideal choice to manage the upcoming phase at Al-Ittihad, especially as he combines refined administrative experience at Olympique Marseille with international relations thanks to his career at Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Roma, in addition to his knowledge of the Gulf region and the Saudi league due to his previous experience with Qatari club Al-Duhail.
