أعلن ملك كمبوديا نورودوم سيهاموني، اليوم (الجمعة)، إصابته بسرطان البروستاتا، مؤكداً أنه يخضع حالياً للعلاج في الصين.
وأوضح الملك، البالغ من العمر 72 عاماً، في بيان رسمي نشرته وزارة الإعلام، أن الفحوصات الطبية الدقيقة التي أجريت له في أحد مستشفيات العاصمة بكين أكدت إصابته بالمرض، مشيراً إلى أنه سيمدد فترة إقامته هناك لمدة تراوح بين شهر و3 أشهر بناءً على توصيات الأطباء.
وخاطب سيهاموني شعبه قائلاً إنه يود إبلاغهم بوضعه الصحي بشفافية، مؤكداً أنه يتلقى الرعاية الطبية اللازمة تحت إشراف فريق متخصص.
مسيرة ملكية وثقافية
ويحكم سيهاموني كمبوديا منذ عام 2004، عقب تنازل والده الراحل نورودوم سيهانوك عن العرش، وتُعد الملكية في البلاد ذات طابع رمزي إلى حد كبير، فيما ظل هون سين الشخصية السياسية الأبرز خلال العقود الماضية.
ويُعرف الملك بخلفيته الثقافية والفنية، إذ درس الفنون الأدائية لسنوات طويلة في تشيكوسلوفاكيا السابقة، وعمل لاحقاً مدرساً للباليه في فرنسا خلال ثمانينيات القرن الماضي.
كما شغل مناصب دبلوماسية مهمة، بينها سفير كمبوديا لدى الأمم المتحدة في أوائل التسعينيات، قبل أن يصبح ممثل بلاده الدائم لدى اليونسكو في باريس، قبل عودته إلى العاصمة بنوم بنه لتولي العرش.
تاريخ عائلي مع المرض
ويعيد هذا الإعلان إلى الأذهان معاناة والده الملك الراحل سيهانوك، الذي كان قد أُصيب أيضاً بالسرطان وتلقى العلاج في بكين، إذ أقام هناك بعد تنازله عن الحكم حتى وفاته عام 2012 عن عمر ناهز 89 عاماً.
King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia announced today (Friday) that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, confirming that he is currently undergoing treatment in China.
The 72-year-old king explained in an official statement published by the Ministry of Information that precise medical examinations conducted at a hospital in Beijing confirmed his illness, noting that he will extend his stay there for a period ranging from one month to three months based on the doctors' recommendations.
Sihamoni addressed his people, stating that he wishes to inform them about his health situation transparently, affirming that he is receiving the necessary medical care under the supervision of a specialized team.
Royal and Cultural Journey
Sihamoni has ruled Cambodia since 2004, following the abdication of his late father, Norodom Sihanouk. The monarchy in the country is largely symbolic, while Hun Sen has remained the most prominent political figure over the past decades.
The king is known for his cultural and artistic background, having studied performing arts for many years in former Czechoslovakia, and later worked as a ballet teacher in France during the 1980s.
He also held important diplomatic positions, including serving as Cambodia's ambassador to the United Nations in the early 1990s, before becoming his country's permanent representative to UNESCO in Paris, prior to returning to the capital Phnom Penh to assume the throne.
Family History with Illness
This announcement brings to mind the suffering of his late father, King Sihanouk, who also suffered from cancer and received treatment in Beijing, where he resided after abdicating until his death in 2012 at the age of 89.
