في واقعة مأساوية هزت الرأي العام التايلندي، لقي طفل يبلغ من العمر 7 سنوات مصرعه بعد تعرضه لهجوم عنيف من قرد مكاك أليف كانت أسرته تحتفظ به بالقرب من منزلها في مقاطعة ناخون سي ثامارات جنوب تايلاند.
وقعت الحادثة الأليمة يوم السبت الماضي، عندما كان الطفل إيكارات سريشان يلعب خارج المنزل، فانقض عليه القرد فجأة وهاجمه بشراسة، ووجه عضات عدة خطيرة في جسد الطفل، خصوصاً في الصدر والساق، مما أدى إلى اختراق رئته حسبما أكد الأطباء.
وبحسب روايات الشهود، حاول الطفل الهرب وهو يصرخ طلباً للنجدة، لكن القرد واصل الهجوم وأسقطه أرضاً، إذ سمع الجيران صرخات الطفل المروعة وصوت القرد الغاضب، وعندما وصل أفراد الأسرة إلى المكان وجدوا الطفل غارقاً في دمائه، بينما كان القرد لا يزال مربوطاً بحبل طويل يسمح له بالحركة.
ونُقل الطفل على الفور إلى مستشفى سيتشون، إلا أن الأطباء فشلوا في إنقاذه، وتوفي متأثراً بإصاباته الخطيرة، وقالت والدته داراني سريشان: «أخبرني الأطباء أن أنياب القرد اخترقت رئة ابني وأصابت منطقة حيوية في صدره، لو لم يكن ذلك المكان بالتحديد، لكان نجا»، مضيفة بحزن: «لن أسمح بتربية أي قرود داخل المنزل مرة أخرى.. أخاف على طفلي الآخر».
وكان القرد من فصيلة المكاك طويل الذيل ويبلغ عمره نحو 4 سنوات، كان يُدعى «شوك» عُرف بين السكان بسلوكه العدواني، إذ كان يظهر أنيابه ويهاجم الغرباء، وسبق له مهاجمة حيوانات أخرى مثل قطة ضالة.
وعثر عليه الجد جارون سريشان مهجوراً بجانب الطريق عام 2022 بعد فقدان أمه، فقرر إنقاذه وتربيته، حتى قال الجد بعد الحادثة: «كنت أعتقد أنني أقوم بعمل إنساني، لكنني الآن أندم بشدة.. كان الطفل والقرد يعرفان بعضهما منذ سنوات، ولم أتوقع أبداً أن ينتهي الأمر بهذه المأساة».
وعقب الحادثة مباشرة، أطلق الجد سراح القرد في منطقة جبلية قريبة، مما دفع الشرطة وفرق الحياة البرية إلى إطلاق عملية بحث واسعة. وتم رصده فوق شجرة، لكن عدوانيته حالت دون الاقتراب منه، فاستُدعي متخصصون مزودون ببنادق التخدير.
وأعادت الحادثة إلى الواجهة الجدل حول مخاطر الاحتفاظ بالحيوانات البرية داخل المنازل في تايلند، ورغم أن تربية بعض أنواع قرود المكاك مسموح بها قانونياً، إلا أنها تخضع لقوانين ورقابة صارمة، ويُعد الاحتفاظ بها دون ترخيص مخالفة قانونية قد تؤدي إلى غرامات أو مصادرة الحيوان.
In a tragic incident that shook public opinion in Thailand, a 7-year-old boy lost his life after being violently attacked by a pet macaque monkey that his family kept near their home in Nakhon Si Thammarat province in southern Thailand.
The heartbreaking incident occurred last Saturday when the boy, Ikraat Srisan, was playing outside the house. Suddenly, the monkey pounced on him and attacked fiercely, delivering several serious bites to the child's body, particularly in the chest and leg, which led to a punctured lung, as confirmed by doctors.
According to eyewitness accounts, the child tried to escape while screaming for help, but the monkey continued the attack and knocked him to the ground. Neighbors heard the child's horrific screams and the angry sounds of the monkey, and when family members arrived at the scene, they found the child lying in a pool of his own blood, while the monkey was still tied with a long rope that allowed it to move.
The child was immediately rushed to Sichon Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him, and he died from his serious injuries. His mother, Darani Srisan, said: "The doctors told me that the monkey's fangs punctured my son's lung and hit a vital area in his chest. If it hadn't been for that specific area, he would have survived," adding sadly: "I will not allow any monkeys to be raised in the house again... I fear for my other child."
The monkey was a long-tailed macaque about 4 years old, named "Chok," known among residents for its aggressive behavior, as it would show its fangs and attack strangers. It had previously attacked other animals, such as a stray cat.
It was found abandoned by the roadside in 2022 by the boy's grandfather, Jaron Srisan, after losing its mother, and he decided to rescue and raise it. After the incident, the grandfather said: "I thought I was doing a humanitarian act, but now I deeply regret it... The child and the monkey had known each other for years, and I never expected it to end in this tragedy."
Immediately following the incident, the grandfather released the monkey in a nearby mountainous area, prompting police and wildlife teams to launch a wide search operation. It was spotted in a tree, but its aggression prevented anyone from approaching it, so specialists equipped with tranquilizer guns were called in.
The incident has brought back to the forefront the debate about the dangers of keeping wild animals in homes in Thailand. Although the keeping of certain types of macaque monkeys is legally permitted, it is subject to strict laws and regulations, and keeping them without a license is a legal violation that could lead to fines or confiscation of the animal.
