في مشهد أشبه بأحداث أفلام هوليوود.. نفّذت عصابة مسلحة عملية سطو جريئة في وضح النهار، بعدما تنكّر أفرادها في زيّ مسؤولين من البنك المركزي الهندي. وتمكّن اللصوص من الاستيلاء على 70 مليون روبية (نحو 800 ألف دولار) من شاحنة مخصصة لنقل الأموال في قلب مدينة بنغالورو بولاية كارناتاكا.
ووفق تصريحات الشرطة، وقعت الحادثة بعد ظهر الأربعاء، حين أوقف 6 رجال يستقلّون سيارة دفع رباعي شاحنة نقل الأموال أثناء تحركها بين فرعين مصرفيين على أحد أكثر الطرق ازدحاماً في المدينة، كما أكد مفوّض شرطة بنغالورو سيمانت كومار سينغ.
وكانت الشاحنة تقل السائق، ومُشرف الأموال، وحارسين مسلحين، وادّعى أفراد العصابة أنهم من البنك المركزي الهندي وطالبوا الطاقم بإظهار المستندات اللازمة لنقل هذا المبلغ الكبير.
ووفق رواية الشرطة، طلب المتهمون من مُشرف الأموال والحارسين ترك أسلحتهم داخل الشاحنة والصعود إلى السيارة الأخرى الخاصة بهم، بينما طُلب من السائق مواصلة القيادة بالشاحنة التي تحمل الأموال.
وبعد تتبع الشاحنة لعدة كيلومترات، أجبرت العصابة السائق على التوقف والنزول، ثم أنزلت مُشرف الأموال والحارسين من السيارة الأخرى، ونقلت الأموال تحت تهديد السلاح قبل أن تلوذ بالفرار.
وتشير التحقيقات الأوّلية إلى أن موقع الحادثة يُعاني من ضعف في تغطية كاميرات المراقبة، كما تبحث الشرطة في احتمال استخدام العصابة أكثر من مركبة لتنفيذ العملية.
ونقلت شبكة BBC عن مسؤول أمني تأكيده أن السيارة المستخدمة كانت تحمل لوحة أرقام مزوّرة وملصقاً كُتب عليه «حكومة الهند»، كما يجري التحقق من احتمال تورط موظفين في شركة نقل الأموال في العملية.
من جانبه، أكد رئيس وزراء كارناتاكا سيدهارامانيا أن الشرطة عثرت على السيارة التي استخدمتها العصابة، إلا أن وزير الداخلية في الولاية جي باراميشوارا أوضح أنه لم يُحدَّد بعد أي المركبات استخدمها المتهمون للهرب، مشيراً إلى أن التحقيقات أثبتت أن الجناة «غيّروا المركبات» أثناء نقل الأموال.
In a scene reminiscent of Hollywood movies, an armed gang executed a bold robbery in broad daylight, after disguising its members as officials from the Reserve Bank of India. The thieves managed to seize 70 million rupees (about 800,000 dollars) from a cash transport truck in the heart of Bengaluru, Karnataka.
According to police statements, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when six men in an SUV stopped the cash transport truck while it was moving between two bank branches on one of the busiest roads in the city, as confirmed by Bengaluru Police Commissioner Simant Kumar Singh.
The truck was carrying the driver, a cash supervisor, and two armed guards, and the gang members claimed to be from the Reserve Bank of India and demanded that the crew show the necessary documents for transporting such a large amount.
According to the police account, the suspects asked the cash supervisor and the guards to leave their weapons inside the truck and get into their other vehicle, while the driver was instructed to continue driving the truck carrying the money.
After following the truck for several kilometers, the gang forced the driver to stop and get out, then removed the cash supervisor and the guards from the other vehicle, and transferred the money under threat of weapon before fleeing.
Initial investigations indicate that the incident location suffers from weak surveillance camera coverage, and police are exploring the possibility that the gang used more than one vehicle to carry out the operation.
The BBC reported that a security official confirmed that the vehicle used had a fake license plate and a sticker that read "Government of India," and there is an ongoing investigation into the potential involvement of employees from the cash transport company in the operation.
For his part, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the police found the vehicle used by the gang, but the state's Home Minister G. Parameshwara clarified that it has not yet been determined which vehicles the suspects used to escape, noting that investigations have shown that the perpetrators "changed vehicles" during the money transfer.
