في قضية غريبة أثارت جدلاً واسعًا في فرنسا، حُكم على مالكة قط في مدينة أغدي (جنوب فرنسا) بغرامة تزيد على 1000 جنيه إسترليني (نحو1250 يورو) بعد أن تسلل حيوانها الأليف إلى حديقة الجار، مسببًا أضرارًا وفقًا للحكم القضائي.
قصة ريمي
القط الأحمر المدعو «ريمي»، الذي يعود لـ«دومينيك فالديس» (64 عامًا، معلمة)، أُدين بإلحاق أضرار بالممتلكات، حيث استمعت المحكمة في بيزييه كيف تبَولَ على لحاف، وتبرزَ في الحديقة، وترك آثار أقدام على جدار مغطى بطبقة طينية طازجة.
الحكم على قط في فرنسا
صدر الحكم الأولي في يناير 2025، بإلزام فالديس بدفع 450 يورو تعويضات و800 يورو رسوم قانونية، بالإضافة إلى غرامة قدرها 30 يورو لكل مرة يتجاوز فيها ريمي الحاجز مرة أخرى.
الآن، اتهم الجار «ريمي» بارتكاب مخالفة جديدة، ما يعني أن فالديس ستعود إلى المحكمة في ديسمبر 2025، وتواجه فاتورة تصل إلى 2000 يورو (1750 جنيه إسترليني)، مع زيادة الغرامة اليومية إلى 150 يورو لكل تجاوز.
تعليق مالكة القط
وأكدت فالديس لقناة BFMTV الفرنسية، أن القضية أثرت عليها نفسيًا بشكل كبير: «عندما أُبلغتُ بالحكم، كان الأمر كأنني تلقيت طوبة على رأسي»، وأضافت أنها تعاني من الأرق، واضطرت للبدء في جلسات علاج نفسي للتعامل مع الضغط.
وتقول فالديس إن الحكم أثر على «ريمي» أيضًا، إذ اضطُرَّتْ لاحتجازِهِ داخل المنزل: «لتهدئته، أعطيه المزيد من الطعام لأنني لا أعرف ماذا أفعل عندما يعوي، فهو يأكل أكثر وزاد وزنه، لا أستطيع حتى إخراجه إلى حديقتي خوفًا من أن يقفز الحاجز، كأنه مسجون في المنزل، عقاب مزدوج».
دفاع عن القط
رغم اعتبار الجار «ريمي» مصدر إزعاج، إلا أن جيران آخرين دافعوا عنه، مشيرين إلى أن رفع دعوى لأمر تافه تعد فضيحة.
كما أعربت منظمات حماية الحيوان، مثل الجمعية الفرنسية لحماية الحيوان (SPA)، عن دعمها لـ«ريمي»، وقال غيوم سانشيز، مدير SPA، لصحيفة «لو باريزيان»: «القطط المنزلية، خصوصا في المنازل، لديها حاجة طبيعية لاستكشاف أراضيها، إذا أصبح هذا سابقة قضائية، فسنشهد تباطؤًا في عمليات التبني، من سيتبنى حيوانًا أليفًا إذا كان يخاطر بدفع غرامات بسبب حركاته؟ لا أحد».

The Story of Remy
The red cat named "Remy," belonging to "Dominique Valdes" (64 years old, a teacher), was found guilty of causing property damage, as the court in Béziers heard how he urinated on a blanket, stood out in the garden, and left paw prints on a wall covered with fresh mud.
The ruling against a cat in France
The initial ruling was issued in January 2025, requiring Valdes to pay €450 in damages and €800 in legal fees, in addition to a fine of €30 for each time Remy crosses the barrier again.
Now, the neighbor has accused "Remy" of committing a new offense, which means Valdes will return to court in December 2025, facing a bill of up to €2,000 (£1,750), with the daily fine increasing to €150 for each violation.
Comment from the Cat Owner
Valdes confirmed to French channel BFMTV that the case has significantly affected her psychologically: "When I was informed of the ruling, it felt like I was hit on the head with a brick," she added that she suffers from insomnia and has had to start therapy sessions to cope with the stress.
Valdes says the ruling has affected "Remy" as well, as she has had to keep him inside the house: "To calm him down, I give him more food because I don't know what to do when he howls; he eats more and has gained weight. I can't even take him out to my garden for fear he will jump the barrier; it's like he's imprisoned in the house, a double punishment."
Defense of the Cat
Despite the neighbor considering "Remy" a nuisance, other neighbors defended him, pointing out that suing over such a trivial matter is a scandal.
Animal protection organizations, such as the French Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA), have also expressed their support for "Remy." Guillaume Sanchez, the director of SPA, told the newspaper "Le Parisien": "Domestic cats, especially in homes, have a natural need to explore their territories. If this becomes a legal precedent, we will see a slowdown in adoption processes; who will adopt a pet if they risk paying fines due to their movements? No one."
