تُجري شرطة كاليفورنيا تحقيقًا واسعًا في جريمة سرقة غامضة استهدفت أحد متاحف الولاية، اختفى خلالها أكثر من 1000 قطعة أثرية تشمل مجوهرات معدنية وجوائز رياضية نادرة، تُجسّد قصة الولاية الذهبية.
ووقعت الجريمة بعدما اقتحم اللصوص منشأة تخزين تابعة لمتحف أوكلاند، في عملية نفّذوها بدقة متناهية وفق ما كشفه بيان شرطة الولاية.
وأكدت مديرة المتحف لوري فوجارتي أن التحقيق جارٍ على نطاق واسع، مرجحةً أن تُعرض بعض القطع في أسواق التحف أو محلات الرهن، مضيفةً أن الخسارة «ليست للمتحف فحسب، بل لجمهورنا ومجتمعنا الذي ساهم في جمع هذه المجموعة الفريدة».
وأشارت فوجارتي إلى أن السرقة لا تبدو «جريمة فنية» منظمة، بل أقرب إلى عملية استيلاء عشوائية، إذ تمكن الجناة من دخول المبنى بسهولة والخروج بما استطاعوا حمله من المقتنيات.
وتختم المديرة حديثها برسالة أمل قائلة: «نأمل أن يعيد لنا المجتمع ما سُرق، لأن هذه الكنوز جزء من هويتنا الجماعية».
The California police are conducting a wide-ranging investigation into a mysterious theft that targeted one of the state's museums, during which more than 1,000 artifacts, including metal jewelry and rare sports trophies that embody the story of the Golden State, disappeared.
The crime occurred after thieves broke into a storage facility belonging to the Oakland Museum, in an operation they executed with meticulous precision, according to a statement from the state police.
Museum director Lori Fogarty confirmed that the investigation is ongoing on a large scale, suggesting that some items may be offered in antique markets or pawn shops, adding that the loss "is not just for the museum, but for our audience and our community that contributed to the collection of this unique assemblage."
Fogarty noted that the theft does not appear to be an organized "art crime," but rather closer to a random seizure, as the perpetrators were able to easily enter the building and leave with whatever they could carry from the possessions.
The director concludes her remarks with a message of hope, saying: "We hope that the community will return what was stolen to us, because these treasures are part of our collective identity."
