A number of Gulf Cooperation Council countries have witnessed heavy rainfall over the past two days, and the opportunity for continued rain remains in several Gulf capitals.
A severe cold air mass of polar origin has begun to deepen southward into Saudi territory, while rare snow showers have been recorded in limited parts of northern and central Saudi Arabia, in an unusual weather scene for these areas.
Forecasts indicate that in the coming hours, the cold polar air will continue to deepen and expand its geographical range to include Kuwait, eastern Saudi Arabia, as well as Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

Rainfall and Thunderstorms

This deepening is expected to lead to a significant increase in the intensity and effectiveness of rainfall, especially with supportive weather conditions for strong convective cloud activity.

Saudi Arabia: Snow in Northern Regions and Scattered Rain

The National Center of Meteorology revealed today (Friday) that the opportunity for thunderous rain remains in the southern parts of the Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia.

It added: The weather will be cold to very cold in the northern border regions, Al-Jouf, Tabuk, Hail, Qassim, extending to parts of Riyadh and Madinah, as well as in the highlands of Makkah and Al-Baha. Fog and frost are also possible during the night and early morning hours in parts of these areas. Meanwhile, surface winds that stir up dust and sand will continue in parts of the northern border regions, Qassim, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, as well as in the western and northwestern parts of the Kingdom, which may lead to nearly zero visibility in coastal areas. Several regions in Saudi Arabia have witnessed snowfall in the past two days.

Qatar: Rain Continues and Warnings for Camp Owners

After the heavy rains that Qatar experienced yesterday (Thursday), which led to the suspension of the match between Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the Arab Cup football tournament organized by Qatar, the Qatari Meteorological Department revealed today (Friday) that varying intensity rainfall continues to be observed in different parts of the country, which may occasionally be thunderous. The meteorological department urged owners of farms and camps to take utmost precautions and secure tents and facilities well against strong downdraft winds, due to the expected weather fluctuations and the possibility of thunderous rain accompanied by downdraft winds. It called for following the latest updates from official sources.

UAE: Heavy Rain and Remote Work

Heavy rain fell yesterday on various regions of the UAE, and the National Center of Meteorology predicted that the weather conditions would continue today (Friday), with effects including water accumulation and valley flows, along with disturbances at sea.

The government decided that its employees would work remotely today (Friday) due to the expected weather conditions in the state and fluctuations in the weather. This decision includes employees in some government entities across several of the seven emirates.

The relevant authorities confirmed that they have put in place proactive plans to deal with the heavy rains, and have formed professional task forces to address developments in the weather situation and any potential emergencies, to ensure rapid response and enhance the safety of community members, protecting lives and property.

The National Center of Meteorology expects varying intensity rainfall to continue in different parts of the state, starting from the western regions, gradually extending to include Abu Dhabi and Dubai, then the northern regions and Al Ain city and the eastern areas, accompanied by lightning and thunder at times, with a possibility of hail in some areas.

It reported that the accompanying effects of this situation include water accumulation and valley flows, the possibility of landslides, as well as the potential for active to strong wind gusts, which may lead to the scattering of solid objects, urging adherence to safety measures and following the instructions of the relevant authorities.

Oman: Scattered Rain and Active Winds

The Omani Meteorological Department expects scattered rain today (Friday) in Musandam Governorate and coastal areas, with generally clear weather in the rest of the governorates, along with the possibility of dust and sand rising due to active winds in desert and exposed areas.

Kuwait: Light Fog and Scattered Rain

The Kuwait Meteorological Department expects the country to experience opportunities for scattered rain today, varying from light to moderate, with a chance of light fog forming in some areas during the evening and early morning hours.

Bahrain: Thunderstorms and Strong Gusts

The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in the Kingdom of Bahrain reported that the expected weather today will be – God willing – relatively cold at first, becoming occasionally cloudy with a chance of scattered rain later, which may be thunderous, then turning cold with some clouds later in the night.

The meteorological department warned of thunderous rain and strong gusts. Wave heights are expected to range from 1 to 3 feet near the coasts, and from 4 to 8 feet offshore.
