شهدت كينيا صباح اليوم (الثلاثاء) حادثة مأساوية بعد تحطم طائرة صغيرة في منطقة كوالي الساحلية أثناء توجهها إلى محمية ماساي مارا الوطنية، إحدى أبرز الوجهات السياحية في شرق إفريقيا، وسط أنباء أولية عن مصرع 12 شخصًا كانوا على متنها.
وقالت هيئة الطيران المدني الكينية في بيان إن الطائرة سقطت في منطقة جبلية تغطيها الغابات الكثيفة، على بعد نحو 40 كيلومترًا من مطار دياني الساحلي، مشيرة إلى أن فرق الإنقاذ هرعت إلى الموقع، بينما تجري السلطات تحقيقًا لمعرفة أسباب الحادثة.
وأكد مفوض مقاطعة كوالي ستيفن أوريندي أن «عمليات الإنقاذ ما زالت مستمرة»، لافتًا إلى أن طبيعة التضاريس وصعوبة الوصول إلى موقع التحطم تُبطئ جهود الفرق الميدانية.
وبحسب المصادر، كانت الطائرة تقل سياحًا ومتجهة إلى محمية ماساي مارا الشهيرة بمشاهد الهجرة السنوية للحيوانات البرية بين سيرينجيتي في تنزانيا ومارا في كينيا، وهي من أكثر المناطق جذبًا للسياح في القارة الإفريقية.
ولم تصدر حتى الآن أي بيانات رسمية حول هوية الركاب أو جنسياتهم، فيما أكدت السلطات الكينية أن نتائج التحقيق الأولية ستُعلن فور استكمال أعمال البحث والإنقاذ.
Kenya witnessed a tragic incident this morning (Tuesday) after a small plane crashed in the coastal Kwale region while heading to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of the top tourist destinations in East Africa, amid initial reports of 12 fatalities among those on board.
The Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority stated in a statement that the plane fell in a mountainous area covered by dense forests, about 40 kilometers from Diani coastal airport, noting that rescue teams rushed to the site, while authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orindi confirmed that "rescue operations are still ongoing," pointing out that the nature of the terrain and the difficulty of accessing the crash site are slowing down the efforts of the field teams.
According to sources, the plane was carrying tourists and was headed to the famous Maasai Mara Reserve, known for the annual migration of wildlife between the Serengeti in Tanzania and Mara in Kenya, making it one of the most attractive areas for tourists on the African continent.
No official statements have yet been issued regarding the identity or nationalities of the passengers, while Kenyan authorities confirmed that preliminary investigation results will be announced as soon as the search and rescue operations are completed.
