أنهى الرئيس الأمريكي السابق جو بايدن جولة من العلاج الإشعاعي استمرت لأسابيع، ضمن مساعيه لمواجهة سرطان البروستاتا الذي تم تشخيصه به في وقت سابق من هذا العام.
وأفادت تقارير أمريكية بأن بايدن (82 عاماً) اختتم جلساته العلاجية في مركز بن ميديسن لعلاج الأورام بالإشعاع في مدينة فيلادلفيا، حيث تلقى سلسلة من العلاجات لمواجهة شكل عدواني من المرض.
ووثّقت آشلي بايدن ابنة الرئيس السابق، لحظة رمزية مؤثرة حين نشرت مقطع فيديو لوالدها وهو يقرع الجرس احتفالاً بانتهاء العلاج في تقليد متعارف عليه بين مرضى السرطان إيذانًا بعبور مرحلة صعبة وبداية أمل جديد في التعافي.
وكان مكتب بايدن قد أعلن في مايو الماضي أن السرطان قد انتشر إلى العظام، مشيرًا إلى التزام الرئيس السابق بخطة علاجية دقيقة تحت إشراف فريق طبي متخصص.
يذكر أن بايدن غادر البيت الأبيض في يناير بعد أن قرر الانسحاب من سباق إعادة الترشح إثر مناظرة مثيرة للجدل أمام الجمهوري دونالد ترمب، الذي فاز لاحقاً على كامالا هاريس في الانتخابات الرئاسية الأخيرة.

American reports indicated that Biden (82 years old) concluded his treatment sessions at the Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology Center in Philadelphia, where he received a series of treatments to address an aggressive form of the disease.

Biden's office announced last May that the cancer had spread to the bones, noting the former president's commitment to a precise treatment plan under the supervision of a specialized medical team.
It is worth mentioning that Biden left the White House in January after deciding to withdraw from the re-election race following a controversial debate against Republican Donald Trump, who later won against Kamala Harris in the last presidential election.
