في خطوة جريئة تهدف إلى حماية الأطفال من مخاطر العالم الرقمي، أعلن المدعي العام الجمهوري لولاية فلوريدا جيمس أوثماير، إصدار أوامر استدعاء جنائية ضد شركة ألعاب الفديو الشهيرة «روبلوكس» واصفًا إياها بـ«أرض خصبة للمفترسين الجنسيين» الذين يستهدفون الأطفال.
وجاء الإعلان في فيديو نشر على منصة «إكس»، حيث اتهم أوثماير الشركة بالتربح من الأطفال دون توفير حماية كافية، قائلًا: «لقد سمحوا بإساءة معاملة أطفالنا»، وفقًا لوكالة «رويترز».
وأطلقت منصة «روبلوكس» لألعاب الفيديو عبر الإنترنت عام 2006، وتسمح للمستخدمين بإنشاء ألعابهم الخاصة ومشاركتها في عوالم افتراضية، مع أكثر من 70 مليون لعبة متاحة، وحققت الشركة نجاحًا هائلًا، خصوصا بين الأطفال والمراهقين، حيث بلغت إيراداتها أكثر من 3.5 مليار دولار في 2024، مدعومة بعملتها الافتراضية «روبوكس» التي تستخدم لشراء الإكسسوارات والألعاب.
وتأتي هذه الخطوة كتطور في تحقيق مستمر بدأ في أبريل الماضي باستدعاء مدني، حيث يطالب أوثماير الشركة بتقديم وثائق حول إجراءات التحقق من أعمار المستخدمين، وإدارة المحتوى، وسياسات التواصل في غرف الدردشة، بالإضافة إلى بيانات عن الوقت الذي يقضيه الأطفال على المنصة والتسويق الموجه لهم.
وأكد أوثماير أن الاستدعاءات الجنائية الجديدة ستساعد المدعين العامين في جمع أدلة حول الأنشطة الإجرامية على المنصة، بما في ذلك حالات التحرش والاستدراج الجنسي، مشيرًا إلى أن فلوريدا سجلت أكثر من 1000 اعتقال لمفترسي أطفال هذا العام، كثير منهم مرتبط بـ«روبلوكس».
وردًا على الاتهامات، أصدرت «روبلوكس» بيانا دفاعيا يؤكد أنها تحظر مشاركة الصور والفيديوهات في الدردشة، وتستخدم فلاتر لمنع تبادل المعلومات الشخصية، وتعمل على تنفيذ تقديرات عمرية لجميع المستخدمين.
ومع ذلك تواجه الشركة ضغوطا متزايدة في الولايات المتحدة، مع دعاوى قضائية من ولايات أخرى مثل لويزيانا وكاليفورنيا، تتهمها بفشلها في منع المفترسين من الوصول إلى الأطفال عبر العملة الافتراضية «روبوكس» للإغراء.

In a bold move aimed at protecting children from the dangers of the digital world, Florida Attorney General James Outhmayer announced the issuance of criminal subpoenas against the famous video game company "Roblox," describing it as a "fertile ground for sexual predators" targeting children.
The announcement came in a video posted on the "X" platform, where Outhmayer accused the company of profiting from children without providing adequate protection, stating: "They have allowed the abuse of our children," according to Reuters.
The "Roblox" online video game platform was launched in 2006, allowing users to create their own games and share them in virtual worlds, with over 70 million games available. The company has achieved tremendous success, especially among children and teenagers, with revenues exceeding $3.5 billion in 2024, supported by its virtual currency "Robux," which is used to purchase accessories and games.
This move comes as a development in an ongoing investigation that began last April with a civil subpoena, where Outhmayer is demanding the company provide documents regarding user age verification procedures, content management, and communication policies in chat rooms, in addition to data on the time children spend on the platform and targeted marketing towards them.
Outhmayer confirmed that the new criminal subpoenas will assist prosecutors in gathering evidence regarding criminal activities on the platform, including cases of harassment and sexual solicitation, noting that Florida has recorded over 1,000 arrests of child predators this year, many of whom are linked to "Roblox."
In response to the allegations, "Roblox" issued a defensive statement confirming that it prohibits the sharing of images and videos in chat, uses filters to prevent the exchange of personal information, and is working on implementing age assessments for all users.
However, the company is facing increasing pressure in the United States, with lawsuits from other states such as Louisiana and California, accusing it of failing to prevent predators from accessing children through the virtual currency "Robux" for grooming.
The platform has sparked ongoing debate about child safety, with reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating thousands of annual complaints regarding sexual harassment and solicitation through chats. In recent years, "Roblox" has faced investigations in several U.S. states, including a lawsuit from Louisiana in 2024 accusing it of facilitating sexual exploitation, and another in San Francisco regarding the failure of security measures.
