The city of Guayaquil, the largest in Ecuador, witnessed a horrific car explosion in front of a shopping center, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others. The incident occurred last night (Tuesday) and caused panic in the area.
Authorities announced the discovery of a second vehicle loaded with explosives at a nearby location, and security forces managed to defuse it before it could explode. Interior Minister Juan Remberg described the devices as being professionally designed by criminal groups seeking to spread chaos and undermine security.
The police released footage from surveillance cameras showing the burning vehicle and urged residents to stay away from the scene while investigations continue to uncover the circumstances of the attack. Guayaquil is considered one of the cities in Ecuador most affected by the spread of violence and organized crime.
