بات من المحتمل أن تظهر صورة الرئيس الأمريكي على عملة تذكارية بقيمة واحد دولار تصدرها دار سك العملة تكريماً للذكرى الـ250 لميلاد أمريكا في 2026، وفقاً للمسودات الأولية للصور التي أكدتها وزارة الخزانة.
«لا أخبار كاذبة هنا»، هكذا رد وزير الخزانة الأمريكي براندون بيتش على منصة «إكس» على صور العملة المعدنية.
وتُظهر صور المسودة صورة جانبية لترمب على المقدمة مع كلمة «الحرية» في الأعلى، و«نحن نثق بالله» في الأسفل، والتاريخين 1776 و2026. وعلى الجانب الآخر، توجد الصورة الشهيرة للرئيس الأمريكي وهو يرفع قبضته بعد محاولة اغتيال بولتر، بنسلفانيا، مع عبارة «قاتل، قاتل، قاتل» في الأعلى، وعلم البلاد يرفرف خلف رأسه.
ويعد تصميم العملة التي سيتم سكها مثيراً للجدل، إذ يُخالف القانون الأمريكي عرض صورة رئيس حالي أو سابق على قيد الحياة، ولا يجوز وضع صورة الرئيس على العملة إلا بعد عامين من وفاته، بحسب تقرير لشبكة «سي إن إن».
و«لا يجوز لأي عملة معدنية تصدر بموجب هذا القسم الفرعي أن تحمل صورة رئيس سابق أو حالي على قيد الحياة، أو صورة أي رئيس سابق متوفى خلال فترة العامين التاليين لتاريخ وفاة ذلك الرئيس»، وفقاً لقانون الولايات المتحدة الذي يحكم تصميم العملات المعدنية.
واستعداداً للاحتفال بالذكرى المئوية الثانية والخمسين لتأسيس أمريكا، أقرّ الكونغرس قانون إعادة تصميم العملات المتداولة القابلة للتحصيل، الذي يسمح لوزارة الخزانة الأمريكية بسكّ عملات معدنية خاصة بقيمة دولار واحد احتفالاً بهذه المناسبة.
وينص القانون على أنه يجوز لوزير الخزانة «سكّ عملات معدنية بقيمة دولار واحد للإصدار خلال فترة عام واحد تبدأ في 1 يناير 2026، تحمل تصاميم ترمز إلى الذكرى المئوية الخمسين للولايات المتحدة».
كما ينص القانون على أنه «لا يجوز تضمين صورة رأس وكتفين أو تمثال نصفي لأي شخص، حياً كان أو ميتاً، ولا صورة لشخص حي في التصميم الموجود على ظهر عملات معدنية محددة».
وتظهر صورة ترمب الجانبية على الوجه الأمامي للعملة، وليس على الوجه الخلفي، ويبدو أنها تتحايل على القانون، إذ لا يزال الوجه الخلفي يحمل صورة ترمب، ولكن من غير الواضح ما إذا كانت الصورة تُعدّ انتهاكاً للقانون، وفق تقرير «سي إن إن».
«لا يجوز تضمين صورة رأس وكتفين أو تمثال نصفي لأي شخص، حياً كان أو ميتاً، ولا صورة لشخص حي في التصميم الموجود على ظهر العملات المعدنية المحددة»، كما ينص القانون.
وفي حين تؤكد وزارة الخزانة أن المسودات التي تحمل صورة ترمب على كلا الجانبين شرعية، أكد متحدث باسم الوزارة أنه لم يتم اختيار التصميم النهائي بعد.
ونقلت شبكة «سي إن إن» عن متحدث باسم وزارة الخزانة أنه في حين لم يتم اختيار التصميم النهائي لعملة الدولار الواحد لإحياء الذكرى المئوية الخامسة والخمسين للولايات المتحدة، فإن «هذه المسودة الأولى تعكس بشكل جيد الروح الدائمة لبلدنا وديموقراطيتنا، حتى في مواجهة العقبات الهائلة»، مضيفاً أنهم «يتطلعون إلى مشاركة المزيد قريباً».
It is likely that the image of the American president will appear on a commemorative one-dollar coin issued by the Mint in honor of the 250th anniversary of America's founding in 2026, according to preliminary drafts of the images confirmed by the Treasury Department.
“No fake news here,” responded U.S. Treasury Secretary Brandon Beach on the platform “X” regarding the images of the coin.
The draft images show a side profile of Trump on the front with the word “Freedom” at the top, and “In God We Trust” at the bottom, along with the dates 1776 and 2026. On the other side, there is the famous image of the American president raising his fist after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, with the phrase “Kill, Kill, Kill” at the top, and the national flag waving behind his head.
The design of the coin to be minted is controversial, as U.S. law prohibits displaying the image of a current or living former president, and an image of a president can only be placed on the coin two years after their death, according to a report by CNN.
“No coin minted under this subsection shall bear the image of a living former or current president, or the image of any former president who died during the two-year period following the date of death of that president,” according to U.S. law governing coin design.
In preparation for the celebration of the 252nd anniversary of America's founding, Congress passed a law to redesign collectible circulating coins, which allows the U.S. Treasury to mint special one-dollar coins to commemorate this occasion.
The law states that the Secretary of the Treasury may “mint one-dollar coins for issuance during a one-year period beginning on January 1, 2026, bearing designs that symbolize the 250th anniversary of the United States.”
The law also stipulates that “no image of a head and shoulders or bust of any person, living or dead, nor an image of a living person shall be included in the design on the reverse of specific coins.”
The side profile of Trump appears on the front of the coin, not the back, and it seems to circumvent the law, as the back still carries an image of Trump, but it is unclear whether the image constitutes a violation of the law, according to the CNN report.
“No image of a head and shoulders or bust of any person, living or dead, nor an image of a living person shall be included in the design on the reverse of specific coins,” as the law states.
While the Treasury Department insists that the drafts featuring Trump’s image on both sides are legitimate, a spokesperson for the department confirmed that the final design has not yet been selected.
CNN reported that a spokesperson for the Treasury Department stated that while the final design for the one-dollar coin commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States has not been chosen, “this initial draft reflects the enduring spirit of our country and our democracy, even in the face of tremendous obstacles,” adding that they “look forward to sharing more soon.”
