In just five years, the young Saudi visual artist Iman Al-Humaid has succeeded in securing a place for herself in the local art scene, thanks to her participation in multiple exhibitions that served as essential milestones, introducing the audience to her works and expanding her artistic presence.
Her works belong to the abstract expressionist symbolic school and are characterized by a striking human presence that seeks to instill hope, healing, and peace. She describes art as a window to light and a message of optimism that transcends geography to address all peoples.
She tells "Okaz" that humanity is her primary source of inspiration, especially sick children, in whose eyes she sees extraordinary strength and a bright hope despite their suffering. She aspires to gift them paintings that provide a boost of optimism.
She describes her relationship with the media as a necessary complementary partnership; artists need the media to reach their audience, while journalism plays its role in documenting the cultural scene.
Iman traces her roots back to a family environment rich in art; her grandfather was a prominent sheikh and poet who bestowed upon her a legacy that respects art and encourages continuity. She cherishes warm childhood memories of accompanying her father to the valley to pick figs and plans to embody that image in a painting as a tribute to her roots and childhood.
She leans towards the abstract school in general and particularly to symbolic abstract expressionism, while surrealism attracts her for its imagination and romantic abstraction for its poetic nature. She chooses the titles of her paintings with care, akin to a writer selecting the title of their book. Although she has paintings that she has not yet exhibited, she considers them a precious part of her artistic journey.
With a clear dream and great ambition, Iman Al-Humaid paints her future towards global recognition and looks forward to participating in international exhibitions and holding her personal exhibition to serve as a bridge carrying her humanitarian messages to the world.
