وأخيراً تحقق حلم جودي ستافورد بامتلاك منزل ريفي يتناغم مع الجمال الطبيعي المحيط في قلب منطقة «بيك ديستريكت» الخلابة في إنجلترا. «لطالما كنت أحلم بمنزل يحمل عبق التاريخ، مع عوارض خشبية وسقف يعبق برائحة الماضي»، تقول جودي مبتسمة بينما تتنقل بنظراتها على المناظر الطبيعية الخلابة من نافذة منزلها، الذي يعود تاريخه إلى القرن السابع عشر.
عندما استحوذت جودي وزوجها على هذا الكوخ التاريخي، لم يكن أمامهما سوى تحدٍ واحد: كيفية تحديث المكان ليتماشى مع احتياجات الحياة العصرية، مع الحفاظ على سحره القديم. يقول المهندس المعماري الذي أدار عملية التجديد: «كان التحدي هو احترام تاريخ المكان وفي نفس الوقت تزويده بكل ما هو حديث».
الأخشاب التي تزين الأسطح، والنوافذ ذات الحواف السميكة، والبيئة الريفية الهادئة، كلها سمات جعلت من هذا المنزل مكاناً فريداً. لكن التحول لم يتوقف عند حدود الديكور فقط، فقد تم توسيع المساحات، وفتح النوافذ ليتمكن ساكنوها من الاستمتاع بمناظر ساحرة لحديقة مزدهرة ومساحات شاسعة من الأراضي الخضراء.
أما بالنسبة لجودي، فقد كان هذا التغيير هو حلم قد تحقق أخيرًا. «أصبح هذا المنزل هو مركز حياتنا، ونحن نستمتع بكل لحظة فيه. إنه المكان الذي كنا نبحث عنه طوال حياتنا».
