وتسببت العاصفة في تعطيل عمل المستشفيات والمدارس وجلسات المحاكم في هونغ كونغ، بعد أن اجتاحت تايوان مخلفة 143 إصابة.
وفي هونغ كونغ، أُلغيت جلسة محاكمة قطب الإعلام الناشط المؤيد للديمقراطية جيمي لاي بعد أن أصدرت السلطات تحذيراً من المستوى الأعلى للأمطار الغزيرة.

وتجمع مؤيدو لاي خارج المحكمة تحت المظلات، بينما أغلقت العيادات الخارجية حتى الساعة 2:00 ظهراً (0600 بتوقيت غرينتش)، وتوقفت المدارس عن العمل طوال اليوم.
وتسببت العاصفة في إلغاء نحو 20% من الرحلات الجوية صباح الخميس في مطارات المنطقة، وفقاً لبيانات «فلايت ماستر»، حيث هطلت أمطار بمعدل يتجاوز 70 ملم في الساعة على مقاطعات غوانغدونغ، هونان، وجيانغشي.
وفي مدينة تشوانتشو، مركز تصدير المنسوجات والأحذية، أُلغي أكثر من ثلث الرحلات الجوية، مع تحذيرات المحللين من أن الطقس المتطرف يشكل تهديداً متزايداً لنمو ثاني أكبر اقتصاد في العالم.
وخصصت الحكومة الصينية اليوم (الخميس) 430 مليون يوان (59.9 مليون دولار) لدعم جهود الإغاثة من الكوارث، ليصل إجمالي التمويل منذ أبريل إلى 5.8 مليار يوان على الأقل، في ظل معاناة البلاد من أمطار قياسية في الشمال والجنوب وحرارة مستمرة في المناطق الداخلية.
وقالت كارا ليانغ، زائرة تبلغ من العمر 25 عاماً من مقاطعة غوانغدونغ: «الأمطار مستمرة وغزيرة جداً، وقد تسببت الفيضانات في العديد من المناطق في الصين في أضرار كبيرة، ما أثر على الجميع، رحلتي إلى هونغ كونغ هذه المرة تعطلت تماماً».
وهبطت العاصفة بودول على ساحل مقاطعة فوجيان الجنوبية الشرقية في الساعة 00:30 بالتوقيت المحلي (1630 بتوقيت غرينتش الأربعاء)، بعد أن ضعفت من إعصار إلى عاصفة استوائية إثر اجتياحها تايوان بسرعة رياح بلغت 191 كم/ساعة، مخلفة شخصا مفقودا وعددا من الإصابات.
ومع تحركها شمال غرب بسرعة 30-35 كم/ساعة، تتوقع السلطات أن تتسبب العاصفة في مزيد من الاضطرابات في جنوب الصين.
وشهدت هونغ كونغ الأسبوع الماضي أعلى معدل أمطار في أغسطس منذ عام 1884، بينما تم إجلاء 75 ألف شخص في غوانغدونغ بعد هطول 622.6 ملم من الأمطار على مدينة قوانغتشو بين 2 و6 أغسطس، أي نحو 3 أضعاف متوسط الشهر، ما أسفر عن مقتل 7 أشخاص على الأقل.
وأكد تشيم لي، محلل أول في وحدة المعلومات الاقتصادية، أن السلطات بحاجة إلى الاستعداد بشكل استثنائي، حيث تظهر أدلة على زيادة شدة الأعاصير الاستوائية وبطء حركتها.
وأشار إلى أن الساحل الجنوبي للصين يواجه اضطرابات اقتصادية متنوعة، مع وجود تحول طفيف شمالا في نقاط ذروة الأعاصير.
وأفادت وسائل الإعلام الرسمية بأن أكثر من مليون متر مكعب من المياه، أي ما يعادل 400 حوض سباحة أولمبي، تم تصريفها من خزان في شرق غوانغدونغ الأربعاء لتوفير مساحة للأمطار المتوقعة.
كما أغلقت السلطات في مدينة ميتشو بمقاطعة غوانغدونغ جميع الطرق السريعة صباح الخميس، وتم تعليق خط السكك الحديدية عالية السرعة بين شنجن وهانغتشو في مقاطعة تشجيانغ.

The storm caused the cancellation of about 20% of flights on Thursday morning at regional airports, according to data from "Flight Master," with rainfall exceeding 70 mm per hour in the provinces of Guangdong, Hunan, and Jiangxi.
In the city of Quanzhou, a center for textile and shoe exports, more than a third of flights were canceled, with analysts warning that extreme weather poses an increasing threat to the growth of the world's second-largest economy.

As it moves northwest at a speed of 30-35 km/h, authorities expect the storm to cause further disruptions in southern China.
Hong Kong experienced its highest rainfall rate in August since 1884 last week, while 75,000 people were evacuated in Guangdong after 622.6 mm of rain fell on the city of Guangzhou between August 2 and 6, nearly three times the monthly average, resulting in at least 7 deaths.
Chim Li, a senior analyst at the Economic Intelligence Unit, confirmed that authorities need to prepare exceptionally, as evidence shows an increase in the intensity of tropical cyclones and a slowdown in their movement.
He noted that the southern coast of China faces various economic disruptions, with a slight shift northward in the peak hurricane points.
State media reported that more than one million cubic meters of water, equivalent to 400 Olympic-sized swimming pools, were discharged from a reservoir in eastern Guangdong on Wednesday to make room for the expected rainfall.
Authorities in the city of Meizhou in Guangdong Province also closed all highways on Thursday morning, and the high-speed rail line between Shenzhen and Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province was suspended.
