شهد مطار هيثرو في لندن، اليوم (الخميس)، إلغاء ما لا يقل عن 16 رحلة جوية من وإلى المطار، بعد يوم من اضطرابات واسعة النطاق في مطارات المملكة المتحدة نتيجة مشكلات تقنية في نظام الملاحة الجوية البريطاني.
وأعلنت هيئة الخدمات الجوية الوطنية (NATS)، المسؤولة عن توفير خدمات الملاحة الجوية في المجال الجوي البريطاني وشرق المحيط الأطلسي، أمس (الأربعاء)، أن أنظمتها عادت للعمل بكامل طاقتها بعد التحول إلى نظام احتياطي، مما سمح باستعادة القدرة التشغيلية الطبيعية.
وتسبب الانقطاع الثاني في غضون عامين في هيئة NATS بتأثيرات على مطار غاتويك قرب لندن، ومطار إدنبرة في أسكتلندا، ومواقع أخرى، حيث تم إلغاء 122 رحلة حتى الساعة 18:30 بتوقيت غرينتش يوم الأربعاء، وفقًا لشركة تحليلات الطيران Cirium.
وأظهر موقع مطار هيثرو أكبر مطارات بريطانيا وأكثرها ازدحامًا في أوروبا، إلغاء رحلات إلى بروكسل وتورونتو، وأخرى قادمة من نيويورك وبرلين يوم الخميس.
وطالب نيل ماكماهون، المدير التنفيذي للعمليات في شركة «رايان إير»، باستقالة مارتن رولف، الرئيس التنفيذي لهيئة NATS، متهمًا إياه بعدم استخلاص دروس من اضطراب أغسطس 2023 الناجم عن خلل في معالجة خطط الرحلات تلقائيًا.
وكانت هيئة NATS قدمت اعتذارًا أمس، للمتضررين من الانقطاع، لكنها لم تعلق على تصريحات ماكماهون باستقالة مارتن رولف.
يُذكر أن مطار هيثرو شهد في مارس الماضي، حريقًا في محطة كهرباء فرعية، تسبب في تعطيل آلاف المسافرين.
Heathrow Airport in London witnessed the cancellation of at least 16 flights to and from the airport today (Thursday), following a day of widespread disruptions at airports across the UK due to technical issues in the British air navigation system.
The National Air Traffic Services (NATS), responsible for providing air traffic services in British airspace and the eastern Atlantic, announced yesterday (Wednesday) that its systems had returned to full operation after switching to a backup system, allowing for the restoration of normal operational capacity.
The second outage in two years at NATS caused impacts at Gatwick Airport near London, Edinburgh Airport in Scotland, and other locations, with 122 flights canceled by 18:30 GMT on Wednesday, according to aviation analytics company Cirium.
Heathrow Airport, the largest and busiest airport in the UK and Europe, showed cancellations for flights to Brussels and Toronto, as well as others arriving from New York and Berlin on Thursday.
Neil McMahon, the Chief Operating Officer at Ryanair, called for the resignation of Martin Rolfe, the CEO of NATS, accusing him of failing to learn lessons from the disruption in August 2023 caused by a glitch in processing flight plans automatically.
NATS issued an apology yesterday to those affected by the outage but did not comment on McMahon's statements regarding Martin Rolfe's resignation.
It is worth noting that Heathrow Airport experienced a fire at a substation last March, which disrupted thousands of travelers.
