ضرب زلزال قوي بلغت شدته 8.7 درجة على مقياس ريختر سواحل شبه جزيرة كامتشاتكا الروسية خلال الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم (الأربعاء)، في حادثة تُعد من أعنف الزلازل التي شهدها المحيط الهادئ منذ عام 2011، وأصدرت الجهات المختصة تحذيرات من احتمال حدوث موجات تسونامي قد تصل إلى اليابان، هاواي وألاسكا، وسط حالة تأهب قصوى في المناطق الساحلية.
وأصدرت الهيئة الجيوفيزيائية الإندونيسية تحذيراً من أن تسونامي بارتفاع أقل من 0.5 متر قد يضرب بعض أجزاء إندونيسيا بعد ظهر اليوم. وقالت إن موجات تسونامي قد تصل إلى بعض المدن والبلدات الساحلية في منطقة بابوا ومقاطعة مالوكو الشمالية ومقاطعة جورونتالو.
وفي اليابان، أجلت السلطات عمال محطة فوكوشيما النووية بعد تحذير من تسونامي، وقال كبير أمناء مجلس الوزراء الياباني إنه لا توجد أي اضطرابات في المنشآت النووية حتى الآن ولم يتم الإبلاغ عن أي إصابات أو أضرار حتى الآن.
أما في الولايات المتحدة، فأصدر نظام التحذير من تسونامي تحذيراً من «موجات تسونامي خطيرة» خلال الساعات القادمة على طول بعض سواحل روسيا واليابان وهاواي.
وأشار النظام إلى أن التحذير سار في كاليفورنيا، وأوريجون، وواشنطن، وكولومبيا البريطانية، وجنوب ألاسكا، وشبه جزيرة ألاسكا.
كما صدر تحذير من تسونامي في جزيرة جوام الأمريكية وجزر أخرى في ميكرونيزيا.
وطالبت كل من المكسيك والصين والفلبين والبيرو والإكوداور من السكان الابتعاد عن المناطق الساحلية.
A powerful earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale struck the coasts of the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday), in an incident considered one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the Pacific Ocean since 2011. Authorities issued warnings about the possibility of tsunami waves reaching Japan, Hawaii, and Alaska, amid a state of maximum alert in coastal areas.
The Indonesian geophysical agency issued a warning that a tsunami with a height of less than 0.5 meters may hit some parts of Indonesia this afternoon. They stated that tsunami waves could reach some coastal cities and towns in the Papua region, North Maluku province, and Gorontalo province.
In Japan, authorities evacuated workers from the Fukushima nuclear plant following a tsunami warning. The Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan stated that there have been no disturbances at nuclear facilities so far, and no injuries or damages have been reported yet.
In the United States, the tsunami warning system issued a warning of "dangerous tsunami waves" in the coming hours along some coasts of Russia, Japan, and Hawaii.
The system indicated that the warning is in effect for California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, South Alaska, and the Alaska Peninsula.
A tsunami warning was also issued for the U.S. territory of Guam and other islands in Micronesia.
Mexico, China, the Philippines, Peru, and Ecuador have urged residents to stay away from coastal areas.
