مع اقتراب مهرجان جلاستونبري، أحد أكبر الأحداث الموسيقية في العالم، نصح خبراء الصحة زوار المهرجان، المتوقع أن يتجاوز عددهم 200 ألف شخص، بضرورة التحقق من تطعيمهم ضد الحصبة، في ظل ارتفاع مقلق في حالات الإصابة بهذا الفايروس القاتل في إنجلترا.
ويستعد عشاق الموسيقى للاستمتاع بعروض فرق مثل «ذا 1975» البريطانية وأوليفيا رودريغو الأمريكية في مزرعة وورثي خلال أقل من أسبوعين، لكن الخبراء يخشون أن يكون المهرجان «حدثاً فائق الانتشار» للفايروس.

وتشير البيانات إلى أن حالات الحصبة في بعض مناطق إنجلترا، خصوصاً في الجنوب الغربي ولندن، تقترب بالفعل من إجمالي الحالات المسجلة في عام 2024، الذي شهد أسوأ تفشٍ للمرض منذ أكثر من عقد.
ويُعتبر فايروس الحصبة من أكثر الفايروسات عدوى، حيث يمكن لشخص مصاب واحد أن ينقل العدوى إلى 9 من كل 10 أشخاص غير مطعمين في محيطه.
وتوفر جرعتان من لقاح الحصبة والنكاف والحصبة الألمانية (MMR) حماية بنسبة 99% ضد هذه الأمراض، التي قد تؤدي إلى مضاعفات خطيرة مثل التهاب السحايا، فقدان السمع، ومشكلات أثناء الحمل.

من جهته، أكد البروفيسور لورانس يونغ، عالم الفايروسات بجامعة وارويك، أن التجمعات الكبيرة مثل مهرجان جلاستونبري تشكل بيئة مثالية لانتشار الحصبة، خصوصاً مع انخفاض نسبة التطعيم وارتفاع الحالات في المملكة المتحدة.
وأضاف أن المصابين بالحصبة يمكن أن ينشروا الفايروس قبل ظهور الأعراض، مثل الطفح الجلدي، بـ4 أيام، ما يجعل الانتشار الصامت خطراً حقيقياً.
ويستغرق لقاح MMR نحو أسبوعين ليصبح فعالاً بالكامل، لذا يُنصح الزوار بالتحقق من حالة تطعيمهم فوراً.

وأوضح يونغ: «من الضروري التواصل مع الطبيب العام للتأكد من التطعيم الكامل بجرعتين من لقاح MMR، وإذا كنت قد تلقيت جرعة واحدة فقط، فلا يزال بإمكانك الحصول على الثانية لتعزيز الحماية».
وأشار الخبراء إلى أن التطعيم لا يحمي الفرد فقط، بل يقلل من مخاطر نقل العدوى للأطفال وغيرهم من الفئات الأكثر عرضة عند العودة من المهرجان.
وتُظهر الإحصاءات أن واحداً من كل خمسة أطفال مصابين بالحصبة يحتاج إلى العلاج في المستشفى، بينما يعاني واحد من كل 15 من مضاعفات خطيرة.
وقال خبير الأمراض المعدية بجامعة ليدز البروفيسور ستيفن غريفين: «نحتاج إلى تغطية تطعيمية بنسبة 92 إلى 95% لمنع التفشي، لكننا حالياً أقل من ذلك بكثير».
وأضاف أن الحصبة، رغم أنها تبدو أحياناً مثل نزلة برد، قد تؤدي إلى التهاب رئوي أو التهاب الدماغ، وحتى مرض دماغي قاتل بعد سنوات من الإصابة الأولية.
بدورها، أصدرت وكالة الأمن الصحي البريطانية (UKHSA) تحذيراً خاصاً لزوار جلاستونبري، حيث قال الدكتور ألاسدير وود، استشاري الحماية الصحية في الجنوب الغربي: «الحصبة تنتشر في جميع أنحاء البلاد، والمهرجانات بيئة مثالية لانتشارها، إذا لم تكن مطعماً بالكامل، تواصل مع طبيبك قبل حضور المهرجان».
ومنذ بداية 2025، سُجلت 420 حالة حصبة في إنجلترا، معظمها بين الأطفال دون سن العاشرة غير المطعمين، وهو رقم قد يكون أقل من الواقع بسبب تأخر الإبلاغ.

Data indicates that measles cases in some areas of England, particularly in the southwest and London, are already approaching the total cases recorded in 2024, which saw the worst outbreak of the disease in over a decade.
The measles virus is considered one of the most contagious viruses, as one infected person can transmit the infection to 9 out of 10 unvaccinated individuals in their vicinity.
Two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine provide 99% protection against these diseases, which can lead to serious complications such as meningitis, hearing loss, and problems during pregnancy.

For his part, Professor Lawrence Young, a virologist at the University of Warwick, confirmed that large gatherings like the Glastonbury Festival create an ideal environment for the spread of measles, especially with declining vaccination rates and rising cases in the UK.
He added that those infected with measles can spread the virus four days before symptoms appear, such as a rash, making silent transmission a real danger.
The MMR vaccine takes about two weeks to become fully effective, so visitors are advised to check their vaccination status immediately.

Young explained: "It is essential to contact your general practitioner to ensure full vaccination with two doses of the MMR vaccine, and if you have only received one dose, you can still get the second to boost your protection."
Experts pointed out that vaccination not only protects the individual but also reduces the risk of transmitting the infection to children and other vulnerable groups when returning from the festival.
Statistics show that one in five children with measles requires hospital treatment, while one in 15 suffers from serious complications.
Professor Stephen Griffin, an infectious disease expert at the University of Leeds, said: "We need a vaccination coverage of 92 to 95% to prevent outbreaks, but we are currently far below that."
He added that measles, although it may sometimes seem like a cold, can lead to pneumonia or encephalitis, and even fatal brain disease years after the initial infection.
For its part, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a special warning for Glastonbury visitors, with Dr. Alasdair Wood, a health protection consultant in the southwest, stating: "Measles is spreading across the country, and festivals are an ideal environment for its spread. If you are not fully vaccinated, contact your doctor before attending the festival."
Since the beginning of 2025, 420 measles cases have been recorded in England, most of them among unvaccinated children under the age of ten, a number that may be lower than reality due to reporting delays.
